Product Description

The dress is made for 6-9 months old girl. The measurements are: chest circumference 48 cm, length 40 cm, width at the bottom 88 cm. The dress has positive ease and the size can be adjusted by working more/ less rows. The dress is made top down flat in one piece. It can be worked in the round too and instructions are provided in the pattern.

The dress is made in Schoeller+Stahl 100% baby superwash wool and can be worn as tunic over the top and leggins. If lighter yarn is used ( like cotton) it can be worn as separate summer dress.

Gauge: 28stsx38 rows=10 cm in stockinette. The gauge depends on your tension so it's only an approximate calculation.

You will need: 3mm circular needles, stitch markers for your convenience, tapestry needle ( to sew the back if worked flat), button, yarn of your choice.

I hope you will enjoy working on this project.

Adrianna Dress by Sugar Lambs

What is Being Made

The Adrianna dress is a knitted garment designed for infants aged 6-9 months. This downloadable PDF pattern provides instructions for creating a fitted yet comfortable dress with a classic silhouette. The original sample features a chest circumference of 48 cm, width at the bottom of 88 cm, and a total length of 40 cm. The design is versatile and can be customized by adjusting the number of raglan increases and stockinette rows to accommodate different sizes and preferences.

Construction Technique

The Adrianna dress is constructed using a top-down flat method, with pieces later sewn together at the back seam. This approach allows knitters to try on the garment as it progresses and make adjustments as needed. The pattern also includes alternative instructions for working in the round, providing flexibility for knitters who prefer circular construction methods. The top-down approach is particularly advantageous for garment fitting, as the dress can be tried on the wearer before completing the final seams.

Stitches and Stitch Patterns Used

The Adrianna dress incorporates several knitting techniques to create visual interest and structure:

  • Stockinette stitch forms the primary fabric base, creating a smooth, classic appearance
  • Raglan increases shape the armholes and shoulders, allowing for proper garment fit and mobility
  • Eyelets add decorative detail and texture throughout the design
  • Bobble stitch provides dimensional embellishment
  • Picot border creates a delicate finished edge
  • 3-stitch I-cord is used for functional or decorative edging details

Yarn and Materials

The pattern calls for sport weight yarn. The original dress was created using Schoeller+Stahl 100% baby superwash wool, requiring 6 balls of 25g (95 meters per ball) to complete the project. For a lighter summer version, the pattern suggests Ice Yarns cotton (80% cotton, 20% polyamide blend, 50g=190 meters per ball) as an alternative.

The recommended gauge is 28 stitches by 38 rows over 10 centimeters in stockinette stitch. Knitters should note that gauge can vary based on individual tension, so the provided calculation is approximate and should be verified with a swatch before beginning the project.

Tools Required

To complete the Adrianna dress, knitters will need the following supplies:

  • 3mm circular knitting needles
  • Tapestry needle for seaming and weaving in ends
  • 1 button for closure
  • Stitch markers (optional but recommended for tracking pattern repeats and construction points)

Difficulty Level

This pattern is rated as intermediate difficulty, making it suitable for knitters with some experience beyond basic techniques. The combination of multiple stitch patterns, raglan shaping, and garment construction requires familiarity with stitch techniques and the ability to follow detailed instructions, though the top-down method provides built-in opportunities for fitting adjustments.
