Product Description
I used aprox 150-200 yards of worsted weight yarn with a size H/5.00mm Hook.
This Pattern could easily be altered into an Infinity Scarf if desired, or even into a larger cowl. I labled this pattern as Intermediate simply due to the Bullion Stitch.

Jelly Beanie Cowl by Blu Daisy Creations
Project Overview
The Jelly Beanie Cowl is an original crochet design by Blu Daisy Creations, created in March 2016. This project combines a fitted beanie with an attached cowl, making it a versatile two-in-one accessory. The design is worked in the round using intermediate-level crochet techniques, offering a modern take on traditional hat and neck warmer styling.
What Is Being Made
This pattern creates a coordinated set consisting of a beanie crown and an attached cowl collar. The construction begins with a foundation round and builds upward using ribbed stitch patterns to create texture and structure. The design is available in multiple sizes to accommodate different head and neck measurements, with instructions provided for the smallest size and additional bracket sizes for larger variations.
Crochet Techniques Used
The Jelly Beanie Cowl employs several intermediate crochet techniques to achieve its distinctive appearance. The pattern utilizes Foundation Half Double Crochet (FHDC), which creates a finished foundation edge without requiring a separate chain base. This technique is combined with post stitches to create textured ribbing throughout the piece.
Post stitches form the core of the pattern's visual interest. Front Post Double Crochet (FPDC) and Back Post Double Crochet (BPDC) are worked alternately to create raised vertical lines and dimensional texture. These stitches are worked around the posts of previous rows rather than into the tops of stitches, producing a pronounced ribbed effect.
The pattern also incorporates the Bullion Stitch, an ornamental stitch that adds decorative embellishment. The Bullion Stitch is executed by loosely yarn overing five times to create six stitches on the hook, then inserting the hook into the assigned stitch, drawing up a loop, drawing through five loops, yarn overing, and drawing through the final two loops. This creates a textured, dimensional knot-like element.
Additional foundational techniques include Chain (CH) for foundation and transition stitches, Double Crochet (DC) for structure, and Slip Stitch (SL ST) for joining rounds and finishing edges.

Materials Required
The Jelly Beanie Cowl is designed to work with worsted weight yarn, though the pattern is compatible with aran and DK weight yarns as well, allowing crafters to choose based on desired drape and finished size. A crochet hook size H/5.00mm is specified for proper gauge and stitch definition.
Additional materials include a darning needle for weaving in yarn ends and finishing, and scissors for cutting yarn. The pattern is written in US crochet terminology.
Difficulty Level
This pattern is rated as intermediate difficulty. While it uses fundamental crochet stitches, the combination of post stitches and the Foundation Half Double Crochet technique require prior crochet experience and familiarity with stitch construction. Crafters new to post stitches or FHDC may benefit from instructional resources before beginning.
Pattern Format
The Jelly Beanie Cowl is provided as a downloadable PDF pattern, making it accessible for immediate use. The pattern includes detailed row-by-row instructions beginning with a Foundation Half Double Crochet foundation round of 70, 90, or 110 stitches depending on desired size, joined with a slip stitch to work in the round.
