Round Pot & Scrubbie Set – Free Crochet Pattern in Paintbox Yarns Recycled Cotton Worsted

This free, downloadable PDF crochet pattern from Paintbox Yarns guides you through making a charming Round Pot and matching Round Scrubbies Set — a practical, eco-friendly pair of home accessories that make excellent gifts or everyday kitchen essentials. Rated easy, this is an ideal beginner project that introduces foundational crochet skills in a satisfying, quick-to-finish format.

What You Will Make

• Round Pot: A small crocheted pot measuring 8 cm (3¼ in) wide and 10 cm (4 in) tall, perfect for use as a desk tidy, small planter liner, or decorative storage vessel.
• Round Scrubbies: Circular scrubbie pads measuring 7 cm (2¾ in) wide, designed for use in the kitchen or bathroom as gentle cleaning tools.

Techniques Used

• Worked in the round: Both the pot and the scrubbies are constructed entirely in rounds rather than flat rows, creating seamless, circular and cylindrical shapes. The pattern notes that it is worked in rounds with turning at the end of each round, giving the finished fabric a neat, structured appearance.
• Stripes: The design incorporates a stripe sequence using multiple colours, adding visual interest and making excellent use of smaller yarn quantities across the four shades specified.
• Turning chain: The pattern specifies that the turning chain does not count as a stitch — an important detail for beginners to note when counting stitches at the end of each round.

Stitches Used

As a beginner-level crochet pattern worked in the round, the design relies on core crochet stitches typical of worsted-weight circular construction. Working in rounds from a central starting point is the primary structural method, building outward for the scrubbies and upward for the cylindrical pot. The straightforward stitch vocabulary makes this an accessible pattern for those new to crochet in the round.

Materials

• Yarn: Paintbox Yarns Recycled Cotton Worsted, a worsted weight yarn sold in 100g balls. The pattern calls for four colours:
  • 1 × Colour A – Honey
  • 1 × Colour B – Jam
  • 1 × Colour C – Tea Dance
  • 1 × Colour D – Sea Green
• Hook: A 4.5mm crochet hook (UK size 7 / US size 7) is recommended throughout the pattern.

About Paintbox Yarns Recycled Cotton Worsted

Paintbox Yarns Recycled Cotton Worsted is a sustainably minded yarn choice, making this set particularly appealing for eco-conscious crafters. Cotton yarns are naturally firm and slightly textured, which is ideal for scrubbies as they provide gentle abrasion for cleaning tasks. The worsted weight ensures the finished pot holds its structure well without the need for additional stiffening. Paintbox Yarns notes that yarn quantities are approximate and that colour reproduction may vary on screen.

Figures in round brackets followed by a number indicate how many times that section should be repeated — a standard convention that beginners will quickly become familiar with as they work through the pattern.
