Product Description

Construction Notes:

Sleeves are made first, from the cuff to the underarm, then held while the body is made. Instructions for long and short sleeves are both included in the pattern.

Body is worked from the bottom up, beginning with the hem. Before joining the hem to the body the pockets are shaped with short-rows. The hem and body are joined together and the body is knit to the top of the pockets, where the body and pockets are joined. The body continues to the underarm where it is joined with the sleeves.

The sleeves and upper body are worked at the same time, while shaping the armholes and sleeve caps. A few short-rows are worked to shape the top of the sleeve cap, then the shoulders are joined with a three-needle bind-off.

The selvedge edges of the pockets are joined to the body while picking up the stitches for the button bands through both layers.

Sati Cardigan by Kristen TenDyke

What is Being Made

The Sati Cardigan is a knitted cardigan designed by Kristen TenDyke for eco-conscious crafters. This garment is available in two sleeve length options: long sleeves or short sleeves. The cardigan features a buttoned front closure and is offered in nine different sizes, ranging from 30¼ inches to 60½ inches bust circumference (77 cm to 153.5 cm). The design accommodates 1–3 inches of positive ease, allowing for comfortable, relaxed fit styling.

Techniques and Construction

The Sati Cardigan is constructed using fundamental knitting techniques appropriate for an intermediate-level crafter. The pattern employs traditional cardigan construction methods, incorporating a buttoned front opening and shaped sleeves. The garment is designed to be worked flat or in the round, depending on the crafter's preference and the specific pattern instructions provided in the downloadable PDF.

Stitches Used

While the complete stitch breakdown is detailed in the full pattern PDF, the Sati Cardigan utilizes standard knitting stitches typical of intermediate-level cardigan patterns. Crafters should expect to work with fundamental stitches and shaping techniques common to fitted knitwear construction.
