Zebedee the Raccoon Amigurumi Pattern
What is Being Made
Zebedee the Raccoon is a crocheted amigurumi toy designed by Kate E Hancock through Patchwork Moose. This downloadable PDF pattern creates a small stuffed raccoon figure approximately 5-6 inches (12-15 centimeters) in height when sitting. The finished toy is suitable for display, collection, or gifting and represents an intermediate-level crochet project.
Crochet Techniques Used
The pattern employs fundamental amigurumi construction techniques, which involve crocheting pieces in the round and stuffing them to create three-dimensional toy forms. A key technical requirement for amigurumi projects is working with tight tension to prevent toy filling from showing through the fabric. The pattern accommodates different yarn weights and hook sizes, though using materials other than those specified will affect the final dimensions of the raccoon.
Crafters have flexibility in finishing details: the pattern offers options for creating eyes through either safety eyes or crocheted eye components, and includes embroidered nose details using yarn or thread.
Stitches and Abbreviations
The pattern is written using UK crochet terminology. Crocheters accustomed to US crochet terms must carefully cross-reference the abbreviations section to ensure they are executing the correct stitches, as UK and US terminology differs significantly. The pattern does not specify individual stitch names in the provided content, but standard amigurumi construction relies on single crochet and increases/decreases worked in rounds.

Pattern Difficulty and Yarn Weight
This pattern is rated as intermediate difficulty, making it suitable for crocheters with foundational skills who are ready to tackle amigurumi construction. The pattern is designed for DK weight yarn, a medium yarn weight that produces a compact, sturdy fabric ideal for toy-making. While crafters may substitute different yarn weights, doing so will directly alter the finished size and may require tension adjustments to maintain the tight gauge necessary for amigurumi work.
