Product Description
Dragonflies always make me think of the faerie world! Hook up this whimsical dragonfly blanket to sell in your handmade shop - it is sure to be a best seller! It also makes a beautiful gift for a baby shower, or hooked up larger as a throw for a guest room. You can make it in any size and with any yarn. Pictured is with DK yarn in baby size (approximately 30"x36"). It was hooked by one of my talented pattern testers, Sarah Heuer. You can follow her on IG as @clandestinelyours. Pattern is written in numerical form (method adapted from the talented designer Owl B. Hooked). This method is simple and clear instructions are given for this new notation of filet. Need extra help along the way? Just ask! No charts or word patterns are included.
Dancing Dragonflies Blanket by Mayhem & Majesty
What Is Being Made
The Dancing Dragonflies Blanket is a crochet throw designed by Becca Bomgardner of Mayhem & Majesty. This downloadable PDF pattern creates a decorative blanket featuring a dragonfly motif. The baby-sized blanket pictured in the pattern measures approximately 33 by 36 inches, making it an ideal size for a crib, stroller, or small throw. The pattern is highly versatile and can be customized in size by increasing in multiples of 46 stitches across and 18 rows vertically, allowing crafters to create blankets of any desired dimensions.
Yarn & Materials
This pattern is designed with flexibility in mind and can be worked with any weight yarn. The finished blanket pictured uses DK weight yarn, requiring 4 to 5 balls total. Crafters have the option to work with a single color or create a multi-colored design using up to 5 different yarn colors. A 4.5mm crochet hook is required, along with standard crochet notions including stitch markers and a yarn needle for weaving in ends.
Crochet Techniques & Stitches
The Dancing Dragonflies Blanket employs several fundamental and specialty crochet techniques to create its finished design. The pattern utilizes the following stitches and abbreviations:
- Chain stitch (ch) — the foundation stitch used to create the base of the blanket
- Single crochet (sc) — a basic short stitch for structure and detail
- Double crochet (dc) — a taller stitch that creates drape and covers fabric quickly
- Slip stitch (sl st) — used to join rounds and move yarn across stitches without adding height
- Foundation Double Crochet (FDC) — a special technique that creates a chain and double crochet row simultaneously, eliminating the need for a separate foundation chain
- Crab stitch — a decorative edging stitch worked backward from left to right (or right to left) that creates a textured, rope-like border
The pattern also uses standard crochet abbreviations including st(s) for stitch or stitches, sk for skip, and rep for repeat. The Foundation Double Crochet technique streamlines the setup process, while the Crab Stitch provides a finished, decorative edge that frames the blanket beautifully.
Pattern Customization & Scalability
One of the key features of this pattern is its adaptability. Gauge is not critical for this project, making it accessible to crocheters of varying skill levels. The blanket can be increased in multiples of 46 stitches across and 18 rows in height to create custom sizes, whether for a larger throw, bed blanket, or smaller baby blanket variation.
