Product Description

The Hangry Caterpillar gets irritable when he needs to eat or if he eats junk food, so it's important that he has lots of healthy fruits to keep him full (and not angry!), so he can become a healthy and happy Butterfly!

This set includes a Caterpillar and Butterfly, Lemon, Pear, Apple, Watermelon and Plum. All are crocheted in the round, except for the Watermelon.

This PDF download includes the pattern in UK and US terms.

This pattern is available for free on my blog. For an ad-free version, you can buy this PDF.

Hangry Caterpillar Crochet Mobile by Ruth Haydock

Project Overview

The Hangry Caterpillar Mobile is a charming decorative crochet project designed by Ruth Haydock. This whimsical mobile features a hungry caterpillar character accompanied by five crocheted fruit toys: Lemon, Pear, Apple, and Watermelon. The concept centers on the caterpillar's need to eat nutritious fruit to grow strong and eventually transform into a beautiful butterfly. This makes it an ideal decoration for nurseries, children's rooms, or as a thoughtful handmade gift.

What Is Being Made

This project creates a complete mobile display consisting of multiple components: a central caterpillar figure, five individual fruit toys (Lemon, Pear, Apple, Watermelon, and additional fruits), and a decorative mobile ring cover. The finished pieces are suspended from the ring to create an engaging, three-dimensional hanging decoration.

Crochet Techniques and Stitches

The Hangry Caterpillar Mobile uses fundamental crochet techniques suitable for intermediate-level crafters. The pattern employs standard crochet stitches to construct amigurumi-style toys—three-dimensional crocheted figures worked in continuous rounds. Crafters will work with basic stitches to build the caterpillar body segments and individual fruit shapes, creating stuffed, sculptural pieces that maintain their form.
