Product Description
This beautiful, airy and lacy textured shawl is very close to my heart as I designed it for my husband’s mother, my mother-in-law, as a thank you gift who’s been helping me a lot.
I named the shawl Kementári - who is the goddess of the Earth in elvish and the colors I used made me think of her and mother nature.
The pattern itself is using simple stitches (chains, single crochets, double crochets, picot stitches and front post stitches) to create a nicely unique textured look.
Difficulty: Intermediate / Advanced
US terms used throughout
To make this shawl, you’ll need: 1 Etrofil Puzzle or alternatively 1 Scheepjes Whirl or approximately 1093 yards/1000 meters of any other fingering yarn
IMPORTANT NOTE: When you finish the shawl it will need some blocking to make the pattern show off
I hope you’ll love it as much as I loved creating it!
Happy crocheting!

Kementári Shawl by K.A.M.E. Crochet
What is Being Made
The Kementári Shawl is a crocheted triangular shawl designed by Krisztina Anna Matejcsok-Edomer of K.A.M.E. Crochet. This finished piece measures 33 inches long by 62 inches wide (84 centimeters by 158 centimeters), making it a substantial accessory suitable for layering or wrapping. The shawl is worked in fingering weight yarn, creating a delicate, lacy construction that showcases intricate stitch patterns.
Difficulty Level and Skill Requirements
This pattern is rated as Advanced Beginner to Intermediate difficulty. Crocheters should have foundational knowledge of basic stitches and be comfortable following multi-row pattern instructions. The pattern requires attention to detail and stitch placement, though it remains accessible to those with some crochet experience looking to expand their skills.
Crochet Techniques Used
The Kementári Shawl employs fundamental crochet techniques combined in a structured pattern sequence. The shawl is constructed using a combination of chain stitches, single crochet, and additional stitch variations that build upon each other to create the final shape and lace pattern. The design utilizes a systematic approach to shaping, likely incorporating increases or directional stitching to achieve the triangular silhouette. Stitch markers are used throughout the construction process to maintain pattern accuracy and track increases or pattern repeats.
Stitches and Abbreviations
The pattern uses the following crochet stitches and abbreviations:
- MR = Magic ring (a method for starting projects in the round)
- CH = Chain stitch (the foundation stitch in crochet)
- SK = Skip (passing over a stitch without working into it)
- ST/STS = Stitch or stitches (individual loops and the plural form)
- SC = Single crochet (a short, tight stitch)
- HD = Half double crochet (a medium-height stitch)
Materials and Yarn Requirements
The Kementári Shawl requires a 3.5 mm (size E) crochet hook for proper gauge and fabric drape. The pattern calls for approximately 1093 yards or 1000 meters of fingering weight yarn, which is a 4-ply yarn weight. The designer recommends either Etrofil Puzzle or Scheepjes Whirl as yarn choices, though any fingering weight yarn of similar yardage will work. Additional materials include a yarn needle for weaving in ends, scissors, and stitch markers for tracking pattern progress.
Finishing and Blocking
An important note for completing this shawl: blocking is essential for the pattern to display properly. After finishing all stitches and weaving in ends, the shawl should be blocked to open up the lace sections and allow the stitch definition to become fully visible. This finishing step transforms the crocheted fabric and ensures the Kementári Shawl reaches its intended appearance and drape.
Pattern Format
The Kementári Shawl pattern is provided as a downloadable PDF, making it convenient for digital reference during the crafting process. The pattern includes written instructions, stitch abbreviations, and photographs to guide crocheters through the construction process.
