Product Description
Noux is a circular yoke sweater that is worked seamlessly from top down. The neck ribbing and a couple of increase rounds are worked first, followed by the beautiful stranded section. After that, some raglan shaping and short rows are added to ensure a better fit. Sleeves are then placed on hold and the body is worked toward the hem, adding a bit of A-shaping. The sleeve stitches are then placed on the needles again and worked in the round toward the cuffs. The pattern includes a photo tutorial for German short rows. Please note that the stranded pattern is charted only.
The sweater is designed to be worn with approximately 4”/ 10 cm of positive ease. Shown in size S.
GAUGE:
22.5 sts and 34 rounds in single color St st using larger needles = 4” / 10 cm
22.5 sts and 28 rounds in stranded colorwork using larger needles = 4” / 10 cm
Use the needle size that gives you the correct gauge. Swatching for both the stranded colorwork and single color stockinette is recommended.
Noux Circular Yoke Sweater by SuviKnits
What is Being Made
Noux is a seamlessly constructed circular yoke sweater designed by Suvi Simola and worked from the top down. This advanced-level knitting project features a fitted silhouette with raglan shaping and A-line body shaping, available in six sizes ranging from XS to XXL with finished bust circumferences from 31¾" to 52¼". The sweater combines colorwork and structural shaping techniques to create a garment with both visual interest and refined fit.
Construction Technique
The Noux sweater employs a top-down circular yoke construction method, beginning with neck ribbing followed by increase rounds that establish the yoke depth. The pattern incorporates stranded colorwork as a central design element, creating a beautiful patterned section across the yoke. After the colorwork is complete, raglan shaping is introduced to contour the armholes and shoulders for a tailored fit. Short rows are strategically placed to enhance the overall garment fit and comfort. The body is then worked in the round toward the hem with subtle A-line shaping for a flattering silhouette. Once the body reaches the desired length, sleeve stitches are returned to the needles and worked in the round down to the cuffs.
Stitches and Stitch Techniques
The pattern utilizes several key knitting techniques suited to advanced crafters:
- Stockinette stitch (St st) — worked in both single color and stranded colorwork sections
- Ribbing — used for the neck and cuff finishing
- Stranded colorwork — a two-color fair isle technique worked from charts provided in the pattern
- Raglan shaping — increases worked at specific intervals to create the yoke structure
- German short rows — a shaping technique with included photo tutorial for creating smooth transitions and improved fit across the back and shoulders
- Circular knitting — seamless construction worked continuously in the round
Materials and Gauge
Noux is designed for 4-ply yarn weight, suitable for creating a garment with good drape and stitch definition. The pattern specifies two different gauges depending on the knitting section:
- Single color stockinette stitch: 22.5 stitches and 34 rounds over 4 inches (10 cm) using larger needles
- Stranded colorwork: 22.5 stitches and 28 rounds over 4 inches (10 cm) using larger needles
Knitters should use the needle size that achieves these gauges with their chosen yarn to ensure proper fit and finished sweater dimensions. Circular needles are required for the seamless top-down construction method.
Pattern Format and Design Credit
This is a downloadable PDF pattern created by independent designer Suvi Simola. The stranded colorwork design is presented in charted format for easy reference during knitting. The pattern includes a dedicated photo tutorial for German short rows, making this advanced technique accessible even to knitters less familiar with the method.
