Owl Baby measures just 7 inches/18cms and is a nice hand size/child size cuddly owl. He is knitted flat and assembled, his beak is knitted with his head so no fiddly positioning and sewing in place!
His wings are shaped to look realistic and his eye patch is knitted in one piece and sewn on separately, so no colour block work involved. Tummy and body knitted in one piece but separately, if that makes sense, again no colour block work.
I write my patterns in the simplest form, line per row, stitch and row counts so you always know where you are and no abbreviations.
There is a step by step assembly guide included with this pattern to help you create the sweetest of baby owls.
Owl Babies is a knitted toy design by Pat Alinejad of Gypsycream. This intermediate-level knitting project creates adorable stuffed owl figures suitable for children's toys or decorative pieces. The pattern includes instructions for constructing the complete owl body with distinct head and body sections, along with detailed making-up guidance for assembly and finishing.
This is a knitting project designed for intermediate-level crafters. The pattern employs a construction method that separates different body components, allowing knitters to work distinct sections before assembling them together. The making-up instructions provide step-by-step guidance for joining pieces and adding finishing details to create the final three-dimensional toy form.
While specific stitch abbreviations are not detailed in the provided content, the pattern utilizes fundamental knitting techniques appropriate for toy construction. The design incorporates textured yarn choices that create visual interest and tactile appeal in the finished piece. Knitters will need to follow the pattern instructions for shaping the head and body sections, then use yarn sewing needles to seam pieces together during the making-up phase.
The Owl Babies pattern calls for three distinct yarns:
This project requires 3.5mm (US size 4) straight knitting needles to work with the Aran/worsted weight components. Additional materials include 20mm safety eyes for the owl's face, toy stuffing for filling the body, and a yarn sewing needle for seaming pieces together during assembly.
The pattern works primarily with Aran weight yarn, making it suitable for intermediate knitters who have experience with basic shaping and assembly techniques. The combination of eyelash and mohair yarns creates a cuddly, soft texture ideal for a toy, while the intermediate difficulty level suggests the pattern includes shaping elements and requires careful attention during the making-up process.
This is a downloadable PDF pattern licensed for personal use and charity knitting only. The design encourages creative color and yarn combinations while emphasizing the importance of careful yarn selection to ensure proper gauge and finished size.
