Product Description

What a fun project. The garment is worked using DK yarn I have not used any particular brand as I had quite a few "bits" leftover. The perfect stash buster.

The jumper is worked in the round from the top down to underarm, then sleeves are separated out, body is finished and sleeves are worked last. Hemline and cuffs have a pretty i-cord edge. The neckline is not finished further but left with a rolled edge to "suggest an i-cord edge.

Below is an indication of measurements, make the jumper as fitted or oversized as you like.

For a standard fit I suggest 2-4" ease.

Bust: 53 (56, 60, 65, 71, 78) cm

Length: 54 (56, 58, 60, 62, 64) cm Sleeves: 40-46 cm

Total yarn usage: 670 (750, 920, 1000, 1140, 1250) m

Needles: 4.5mm long circular for body + short circular or DPN for sleeves

Marker: 4 (3+1 in a unique colour for beg. of round)

Gauge: 16sts x 26rounds in stockinette stitch over 4x4"

What is Being Made

The Pringles Stripes Raglan Jumper is a seamless, top-down knitted sweater featuring distinctive horizontal stripes in contrasting colors. This intermediate-level design showcases a classic raglan construction with color blocking in dark grey, light grey, and lilac throughout the body and sleeves. The jumper is available in six sizes, with bust measurements ranging from 53 cm to 78 cm and finished lengths between 54 and 64 cm, making it suitable for various body types.

Knitting Techniques

This garment employs several key knitting techniques that define its construction and visual appeal:

  • Seamless Construction in the Round: The entire jumper is worked seamlessly using circular needles, eliminating the need for seaming and creating a smooth, professional finish.
  • Top-Down Construction: Beginning at the neckline and working downward toward the hem allows for easy fitting adjustments and the ability to try on the garment as you progress.
  • Raglan Increases: Strategic increases are worked at four raglan lines (one at each shoulder and one on each side of the body) to shape the armholes and create the characteristic raglan sleeve cap.
  • Stripes and Color Work: Horizontal stripes are created by alternating between dark grey, light grey, and lilac yarns, with color changes occurring at specific intervals to build the striped pattern.

Stitches Used

The Pringles Stripes Raglan Jumper utilizes fundamental knitting stitches appropriate for an intermediate skill level:

  • Knit Stitch (K): The primary stitch throughout the garment, creating the smooth stockinette fabric base.
  • Knit Front and Back Fold (KFBF): An increase technique worked at the raglan markers to create the shaping required for proper sleeve cap fit. This stitch is executed by knitting into the front and back of the same stitch, effectively adding one stitch per KFBF.
  • Slip Marker (SM): Used to mark important positions such as the beginning of the round and the four raglan increase lines, allowing you to track your progress and maintain pattern accuracy.

Materials and Specifications

Yarn: The pattern calls for assorted DK (double knitting) weight yarn in a mix-and-match approach, allowing crafters to use various shades of dark grey, light grey, and lilac. Total yarn requirements range from 670 meters for the smallest size to 1250 meters for the largest size, providing flexibility for stash-busting or coordinating complementary yarn colors.

Needles and Tools: The project requires 4.5mm circular needles—long circular needles for working the body and short circular needles or double-pointed needles (DPN) for the sleeves. Stitch markers are essential, with the pattern recommending four markers total, including one unique-colored marker to denote the beginning of round.

Gauge: A gauge of 16 stitches and 26 rounds per 10 centimeters is specified, making accurate gauge swatching important for achieving the correct finished measurements.
