Red Riding Hood Amigurumi Crochet Pattern

What is Being Made

This is a crochet amigurumi pattern for creating a Red Riding Hood doll, designed by Sayjai of K and J Dolls. The finished doll stands approximately 6.5 inches (16.5 cm) tall, making it a small, portable stuffed toy suitable for display, play, or gifting. Amigurumi is the Japanese art of crocheting small, stuffed fabric sculptures, typically featuring cute or character-based designs.

Craft and Techniques

This project uses crochet as the primary construction method. The pattern is worked in continuous rounds, meaning you work in a spiral without joining or turning at the end of each round unless specifically instructed otherwise. This technique creates seamless, smooth fabric ideal for amigurumi construction. The designer recommends marking the first stitch of each round to help track where each new round begins, which is a standard practice in amigurumi work to maintain consistent shaping and stitch count.

Stitches Used

The pattern utilizes fundamental crochet stitches appropriate for amigurumi construction:

  • Chain (ch) – the foundation stitch used to create the base loops for the project
  • Single crochet (sc) – the primary stitch used throughout the pattern for building the fabric structure and creating tight, dense stitching necessary for stuffed toys
  • Slip stitch (sl) – used when joining is required, typically for finishing rounds or connecting sections

Materials and Tools

The pattern is designed with flexibility in yarn choice. The designer specifies using 4 ply yarn in multiple colors to create the character: red, brown, cream, black, and white. A 3.00 mm crochet hook is recommended to work with 4 ply yarn, though the pattern notes that you may choose a hook size that matches whatever yarn weight you select.

Additional materials required include:

  • Polyester fiberfill for stuffing the doll to create its three-dimensional shape
  • Black 10 mm buttons for eyes, or alternative eye options as desired
  • Tapestry needle for weaving in yarn ends
  • Sewing needle and thread in colors matching the hair and other components for securely attaching eyes and hair details

Difficulty Level

This pattern is rated as intermediate difficulty, indicating it is suitable for crocheters with some experience beyond absolute beginners. The continuous round technique and the need to manage multiple color changes and small details require familiarity with basic crochet fundamentals and the ability to follow pattern instructions with moderate complexity.

Just about finished. Adorable pattern, but a few steps could've been better explained or had a more detailed pic for guidance...i.e. attaching the legs, making the hands, sewing the hair. I figured it all out tho ☺️
