Product Description
The Right Direction Scarf is a simple scarf/wrap using a four colour colourblock and some simple chevron detailing to create a fun unique pattern. The scarf is knit using stockinette for the body and garter for the edging, and has pointed ends. Knit using the soft, airy Knitpicks Wonderfluff yarn, this is such a lightweight, but super cozy scarf!
Sizes offered: One Size (167 cm/66 inches in length tip to tip, 32 cm/12.5 inches in width)these measurements are based off of my sample piece, yours may vary slightly depending on gauge and tension.
Yarn required: Four colours of any bulky weight yarn that you can get gauge with. I used Knitpicks Wonderfluff (142 yds per 50 g ball) in Wellies Heather (Colour A), Cobblestone Heather (Colour B), Finnley Heather (Colour C), and Bare (Colour D). Wonderfluff is a very lightweight, airy yarn, so I recommend using a similar type of bulky yarn to get the same effect, though you are welcome to use any bulky you want as long as you can achieve gauge!

What Is Being Made
The Right Direction Scarf is a beginner-friendly knitted accessory designed by independent designer Claire Jackson. This downloadable knitting pattern creates a finished scarf suitable for those new to the craft or seeking a straightforward project with satisfying results.
Craft and Primary Technique
This pattern uses knitting as its primary construction method. Knitting involves interlocking loops of yarn using two needles to create fabric from a series of interconnected stitches. The Right Direction Scarf is classified as a beginner to intermediate level project, making it accessible to newer knitters while offering enough structure to build foundational skills.
Stitches and Techniques Used
The pattern employs essential knitting stitches and techniques, including:
- Knit stitch (k) — the fundamental stitch that forms the basis of most knitted fabrics
- Purl stitch (p) — the reverse of the knit stitch, used to create texture and pattern variation
- Cast on (CO) — the foundational technique for creating the initial loops on your needle to begin knitting
- Increase (inc) — a method for adding stitches to expand the width of your work
- Knit through the back loop (kfb) — a specific increase technique where you knit into the front of a stitch, then insert your needle through the back loop of the same stitch before removing it from the main needle, effectively creating two stitches from one
Materials and Equipment
The Right Direction Scarf is designed to be worked with chunky weight yarn, which creates a thick, cozy fabric that works up quickly and is forgiving for beginners. The pattern calls for 8mm / US 11 knitting needles, available in either circular or straight needle styles. If using circular needles, the pattern recommends a cord length of at least 24 inches to prevent your work from becoming bunched as you progress.
