Product Description

These patterns include both UK and US terminology as well as information on all the yarn and tools you will need to make these projects. They are relatively easy to make and look great on a Christmas themed windowsill or bookcase! I like to keep buttons and stationery in mine, but you can use yours for whatever you want! (Maybe the secret sweetie stash?)

For these patterns I used Willow and Lark Ramble yarn which is incredibly soft and has a beautiful texture to it. There is an ever-growing range of colours to choose from too!

These josies fit a 12.5cm (Height) by 6.5cm (Diameter) jar. I used Dolmio sauce jars that I had thoroughly washed out, but the size doesn’t have to be completely accurate as the josies do stretch generously.

Santa and Reindeer Josy Set by Kayleigh's Creative World

Project Overview

The Santa and Reindeer Josy Set is a delightful crochet project designed by Kayleigh's Creative World. This set features amigurumi-style crocheted characters, creating charming decorative pieces or toys. The pattern includes instructions for creating both Santa and Reindeer characters as a coordinated collection.

What Is Being Made

This pattern produces a set of crocheted character dolls featuring Santa and Reindeer designs. Each finished piece measures approximately 12.5cm in height with a diameter of 6.5cm, making them ideal for decorations, gifts, or collectible pieces. The amigurumi technique creates three-dimensional, stuffed figures with defined features and character details.

Crochet Techniques Used

The Santa and Reindeer Josy Set employs fundamental and intermediate crochet techniques suitable for crafters with some experience. The pattern utilizes continuous rounds with stitch markers to track progression, eliminating the need for slip stitch joins at the end of each round unless specifically instructed. The Back Loop Only (BLO) technique is incorporated to create texture and definition in specific areas of the design.

Stitches and Stitch Abbreviations

  • Chain (ch): Foundation stitch for creating the base of the design
  • Single Crochet (sc): Primary stitch used throughout the body construction
  • Single Crochet 2 Together (sc2tog): Decreasing stitch for shaping the amigurumi forms
  • Half Double Crochet (hdc): Medium-height stitch for varied texture
  • Double Crochet (dc): Taller stitch for creating different fabric densities
  • Double Crochet 2 Together (dc2tog): Decreasing stitch for advanced shaping
  • Half Treble Crochet (htr): Additional stitch option for texture variation
  • Treble Crochet (tr): Tall stitch for creating openwork or textured areas
  • Slip Stitch (sl st): Used selectively for joining when specified
  • Back Loop Only (BLO): Technique applied to specific stitches for dimensional effects

Materials and Tools Required

The pattern calls for DK weight yarn in multiple colors from the Willow and Lark and Ramble yarn collections. Specific yarn colors include Red (111) for Santa's suit and hat, Black (109) for details and features, Yellow (114) for accents, and White (101) for highlights and trim. Each color requires one 50g ball of yarn.

Essential tools for completing this project include a 4mm crochet hook for the main body construction and a 3mm crochet hook for finer details and finishing work. Additional supplies needed are a stitch marker to track the beginning of each round, a darning needle for weaving in ends and assembling pieces, and scissors for cutting yarn. The pattern also recommends using a knitting doll or jar to assist with stuffing and shaping the amigurumi pieces.

Difficulty Level

This pattern is rated as Intermediate, making it suitable for crocheters who have mastered basic stitches and are ready to tackle shaping techniques, color changes, and three-dimensional construction. The continuous round method and decreasing stitches require some experience to execute smoothly.

Pattern Terminology and Notes

The pattern is written in both UK and US crochet terminology, with US terms provided in square brackets for clarity. This dual notation ensures accessibility for crocheters regardless of their regional terminology preference. The pattern emphasizes placing a stitch marker in the first stitch of every round when working continuously, and notes that slip stitches should only be used to join rounds when explicitly stated in the instructions.
