Product Description
I accidentally stumbled on the texture for this jumper years ago, when I misinterpreted a translated pattern and used the wrong yarn, creating a jumper that I loved but that quickly stretched to a point beyond wearable.
I’ve come back to the idea so many times over the years, and finally found a way to create that gorgeous loose texture without the stretch.
This is a really simple pattern, but it’s effective. The front, back and sleeves of the jumper are knit separately using two different sizes of needles, and are then seamed together. You also pick up stitches around the neckline to create a neat collar to match the ribbing of the cuffs and hem.
I absolutely adore this slouchy, casual jumper. It’s easy and effortless, and I hope you love it, too.

What is Being Made
The Simple Oversized Jumper is a slouchy, casual knitted sweater designed with an intentionally loose and comfortable fit. This oversized jumper features a relaxed silhouette that prioritizes comfort and effortless style. The garment is constructed with a front panel, back panel, and two sleeves that are knitted separately before being seamed together, along with a coordinated neckline collar.
Design and Construction Techniques
This pattern employs a straightforward modular construction method, with each major component of the jumper knitted as an individual piece. The designer uses two different needle sizes throughout the project to create textural variation and control the fabric's drape and stretch characteristics. This dual-needle technique is central to achieving the jumper's signature loose texture while maintaining structural integrity.
After the main pieces are completed, they are seamed together to form the complete garment. The neckline is finished using a pick-up stitch technique, where stitches are picked up around the neck opening to create a neat, coordinated collar that matches the ribbed cuffs and hem.
Stitches and Stitch Work
The pattern incorporates ribbing at the cuffs and hem, which provides elasticity and a finished appearance at the garment edges. The main body features a textured stitch pattern that creates the jumper's characteristic loose, slouchy aesthetic without excessive stretch. The pick-up stitch method used for the collar ensures a professional finish that coordinates with the existing ribbed elements.
Materials and Yarn Specifications
This pattern is designed for DK weight yarn, a lightweight to medium-weight yarn that works well for creating draped, comfortable garments. The project requires two different sizes of knitting needles to achieve the intended fabric texture and structure. The specific needle sizes and yardage requirements are detailed within the downloadable PDF pattern.
Skill Level
The Simple Oversized Jumper is rated as an intermediate difficulty project. While the pattern is described as "really simple" and "easy and effortless," the intermediate classification reflects the skills required for garment construction, including seaming techniques, pick-up stitches, and working with multiple pattern pieces.
