The Spruce Cardigan is a knitted baby and children's cardigan designed by OGE Knitwear Designs. This downloadable PDF pattern offers seven size options ranging from newborn through early childhood: Size [A] for 0-6 months, Size [B] for 6-12 months, Size [C] for 12-18 months, Size [D] for 2-3 years, Size [E] for 4-5 years, Size [F] for 6-7 years, and Size [G] for 8-9 years. The cardigan features a button closure, making it a practical layering piece for infants and young children.
The Spruce Cardigan is designed with the following measurements when buttoned:
The Spruce Cardigan is worked primarily in garter stitch, a fundamental knitting technique that creates a textured, reversible fabric with horizontal ridges. Garter stitch is formed by knitting every row, making it an excellent choice for beginner to intermediate knitters and providing a sturdy, elastic fabric suitable for children's garments. The pattern is classified as intermediate difficulty, indicating that while garter stitch itself is straightforward, the overall construction involves shaping techniques and assembly skills typical of fitted cardigan patterns.
The Spruce Cardigan is designed to be worked with DK weight or sport weight yarn on 4 mm (US 6 / UK 8) needles. The pattern specifies a gauge of 22 stitches and 38 rows over 10 cm (4 inches) when worked in garter stitch on the recommended needle size. Maintaining accurate gauge is essential for achieving the correct finished measurements across all seven sizes.
Beyond yarn and needles, the pattern requires the following notions: stitch holders for managing stitches during construction, and 2 buttons measuring 2 cm (¾ inch) for the front button closure. The specific yardage requirements for each size are detailed in the pattern documentation.
This is a downloadable PDF pattern created and copyrighted by OGE Knitwear Designs. The pattern includes comprehensive sizing information and construction guidance suitable for knitters with intermediate-level skills who are comfortable with basic shaping, armhole and neckline decreases, and garment assembly techniques.
