Product Description

This adorable little bear in a yellow tutu is the next in my collection of little animals. This is a relatively easy project for beginner to intermediate crocheters which will take a couple of hours if you are experienced in crochet and reading crochet patterns.

It is a perfect homemade gift for a child to play with but also such a cute little decoration for your house of as a gift for a friend to decorate their home!

The insturctions are clear and detailed with photos to make it easier to follow and understand.

Do take a look at my other patterns as I design other little animal friends to go along with this bear and will soon be releasing some patterns with different outfits for it to wear. Please also share pictures of your completed bear in the comment section, I would love to see your creations!

Amigurumi Ballet Bear Plushie by LoopyLucy

What is Being Made

This is a downloadable crochet pattern for creating an Amigurumi Ballet Bear Plushie, a small stuffed toy bear designed with a ballet theme. The completed bear measures approximately 8.5cm wide, 9.5cm tall, and 6.5cm deep without the tutu, making it a compact decorative or gift-sized plushie suitable for intermediate crocheters.

Craft and Primary Technique

The pattern uses crochet as the primary construction method. Amigurumi is a Japanese crochet technique that creates three-dimensional stuffed toys through a combination of tight stitching and strategic increases and decreases to shape the form. This technique allows crafters to build dimensional figures by working in continuous rounds, gradually expanding and contracting the fabric to form distinct body parts like the head, body, limbs, and accessories.

Stitches and Construction Methods

The pattern employs fundamental crochet stitches appropriate for amigurumi construction:

  • Chain (ch) – Used to create the foundation loops at the beginning of the project
  • Single Crochet (sc) – The primary stitch used throughout the bear, creating a tight, dense fabric ideal for stuffed toys
  • Increase (inc) – Worked by crocheting two single crochets into the same stitch to expand the fabric and create rounded shapes
  • Single Crochet Two Together (sc2tog) – A decrease stitch that combines two stitches into one, used to shape and reduce the fabric as needed for forming the bear's contours

The pattern demonstrates the characteristic amigurumi approach of building the head first through a series of increases to create a sphere, followed by rounds of consistent stitching to maintain dimensions, and then decreases to close and shape the form before stuffing.

Materials and Tools

The pattern calls for the following materials and equipment:

  • Yarn: DK weight yarn in two colors – Patons Smoothie DK in Cream Mix (02100) for the main bear body, and Sirdar Hayfield Bonus DK in Denim (994) for accent details. Approximately 20g of the primary color and 30cm of the secondary color are required
  • Crochet Hook: 4mm hook, which pairs with DK weight yarn to achieve the specified gauge
  • Gauge: 18 stitches per 10cm and 20 single crochet rows per 10cm when working with the 4mm hook and DK yarn
  • Additional Supplies: Toy stuffing for filling the bear to create dimension and structure, a yarn sewing needle for seaming and finishing, scissors for cutting yarn, and an optional stitch marker for tracking rounds

Difficulty Level

This pattern is rated as intermediate difficulty, suitable for crocheters with foundational knowledge of basic stitches and experience working in the round. The pattern requires understanding of increases and decreases, ability to follow stitch counts across multiple rounds, and familiarity with stuffing and shaping techniques essential to amigurumi construction.
