you will need 2 mini skeins or 1 larger skein of any sock yarn. Fireweed works best with solid coloured yarns or some small variegation. It does not work well with self-striping yarns.

What is Being Made
Fireweed Socks is a downloadable knitting pattern for unisex socks designed by Korora Knits. The pattern produces fine-grained textured socks that work best with solid or semi-solid yarn colours. The design comes in three different sizes, including a Narrow size suitable for teens or women with narrow feet, making these versatile socks accessible to various foot shapes and sizes.
Techniques and Construction
This sock pattern features a textured two-round repeat stitch pattern that creates both visual interest and pleasant tactile feedback when worn. The pattern is described as a great TV knit, meaning it is engaging enough to be interesting but not so complex that it requires constant attention to the instructions. Fireweed Socks offers significant customisation flexibility: you can adjust sizing by keeping the stitch count constant while increasing or decreasing your needle size, or you can experiment with different needle sizes such as 2.75mm (US 2) to achieve a comfortable fit tailored to your individual foot.
The pattern includes two different heel options, allowing knitters to choose the heel construction that best suits their preferences and experience level. This flexibility makes Fireweed Socks suitable both for experienced sock knitters seeking an enjoyable project and for those attempting socks for the first time.
Stitches Used
The Fireweed Socks pattern employs fundamental knitting stitches including:
- Knit (k) – the basic knit stitch
- Purl (p) – the basic purl stitch
- Purl two stitches together (p2tog) – a decrease stitch
- Slip 1 stitch with yarn in front (s1) – used for edge stitches and shaping
- Pass slipped stitch over (psso) – a decrease technique
Materials Required
This pattern is designed for 4-ply yarn weight, which is ideal for creating fine, durable socks with excellent stitch definition. Needles required are 2.50mm (US 1.5) or 3.00mm (US 2.5) double pointed needles, or circular needles if using the magic loop method. A tapestry needle is needed for weaving in yarn ends and finishing the socks.
Difficulty Level
Fireweed Socks is rated as an intermediate difficulty pattern, making it appropriate for knitters with some experience who are ready to tackle sock construction while still enjoying a manageable challenge.
