Product Description
This horse stuffed animal is decorated with the image of blue rose. The legs of the toy are movable.
The body of the toy is knitted on straight knitting needles and consists of two parts, sewn together. The ears are also knitted on straight needles. The legs are knitted on double-pointed needles in a circle. However, you can also knit them on straight knitting needles following the instructions and sew a back seam.
I used Alize Lanagold Fine, wool blend, 390 m/100 g as well as cotton yarn of the same thickness. When using this yarn, the finished toy is 22 cm (about 8 3/4 inches) tall.
Horse with Blue Rose Knitted Toy Pattern
What is Being Made
This is a knitted stuffed toy horse designed by KnitLand, standing approximately 22 cm (8 3/4 inches) tall when completed. The toy features a decorative blue rose motif and is characterized by movable legs that articulate at the body joints. The horse is a soft, cuddly plush toy suitable for children and collectors, combining traditional knitting techniques with playful embellishment details.
Construction and Design Features
The horse toy is constructed using a multi-part assembly method that combines different knitting approaches for various components. The main body is knitted on straight knitting needles and consists of two separate pieces that are sewn together to create a three-dimensional form. The ears are also worked on straight needles as individual components before being attached to the head. The movable legs are the standout feature—these are knitted on double-pointed needles in the round to create seamless tubes, though the pattern offers an alternative method for knitting the legs flat on straight needles with a back seam for those preferring that technique.
Knitting Techniques and Stitches
This intermediate-level pattern employs fundamental knitting techniques appropriate for toy making. The primary method involves working pieces flat on straight needles, which is ideal for creating the body and ear components with clean, manageable edges for seaming. The pattern also incorporates circular knitting on double-pointed needles for the legs, introducing crafters to working in the round—a technique that creates seamless, tubular fabric. The toy is stuffed with hollow fiber filling and assembled using mattress stitch or similar seaming methods to join the body pieces invisibly. Embellishment involves attaching beads for eyes and using a crochet hook to add the mane and tail, demonstrating how knitting patterns can incorporate mixed techniques for enhanced visual interest.
Yarn and Materials
The pattern calls for 4-ply weight yarn in white, blue, and light blue for the main body. The designer used Alize Lanagold Fine, a wool blend yarn (390 m per 100 g), combined with cotton yarn of matching thickness to achieve the desired finished dimensions and fabric characteristics. For the mane and tail, Alize Romantika yarn is recommended—a blend of 40% cotton, 34% acrylic, and 26% polyamide with yardage of 250 m per 50 g, which provides texture and movement to these decorative elements.
Additional materials required include:
- Double-pointed knitting needles (size appropriate for 4-ply yarn)
- Straight knitting needles (matching size)
- Two black beads for eyes
- Hollow fiber stuffing for the toy body
- Crochet hook for attaching mane and tail
- Four buttons with two holes to create articulation points for the movable legs
- Strong thread for securely sewing the legs to the body
Skill Level
This pattern is rated as intermediate difficulty, making it suitable for knitters with some experience who have mastered basic stitches and are ready to tackle multi-piece construction, seaming, and simple embellishment techniques. The combination of flat and circular knitting, along with assembly and finishing details, provides a satisfying project that builds practical skills in toy design.
