Product Description
The pattern comes with written knitting instructions for 4ply sweater 0 - 5 years and the Name chart pictured. Moniker name sweaters make great gifts for newborns. You can knit the back and sleeves before baby is born and finish the front once the name has been announced. The sweater can then be kept as a keepsake, hung in the child’s room, on the door or used to dress a toy. Not the name you wanted? No problem, leave a request on my site!
This chart can be used with any INSTARSIA pattern. All instarsia charts now have a colour count on them telling you how many squares of each colour make up the chart. This is helpful info if you want to uses the chart to make pixel crochet blankets, bead art or even quilting.
Intarsia - Logan Moniker Chart Children's Sweater
Project Overview
This is a downloadable PDF knitting pattern for a children's sweater featuring intarsia colorwork design. The pattern is designed by Instarsia and offers an intermediate level of difficulty, making it suitable for knitters with some experience in garment construction and colorwork techniques.
What Is Being Made
The project creates a complete children's pullover sweater with a moniker chart intarsia design. The sweater includes a fitted back and front panel, shaped armholes, and ribbed edging details. The pattern is provided in multiple sizes to accommodate different children's measurements.
Knitting Techniques Used
Intarsia Colorwork: The primary design feature uses intarsia technique, which involves knitting with multiple colors to create a pictorial or moniker chart design. This method differs from stranded colorwork as it uses separate yarn lengths for each color section, eliminating long floats across the back of the work.
Shaping Methods: The sweater incorporates structured shaping throughout, including armhole decreases worked at each end of rows to create fitted sleeve openings. The pattern uses decreasing techniques to shape the garment to body contours.
Ribbed Edging: The sweater features 2x2 ribbing (knit 2, purl 2 repeat pattern) for neckline, cuffs, and hem areas, providing elasticity and a finished appearance.
Stitches Used
- Stockinette Stitch (st-st): The primary stitch used throughout the main body of the sweater, creating a smooth, flat fabric suitable for displaying the intarsia design
- 2x2 Ribbing: Alternating knit and purl stitches in a 2x2 pattern used for edgings and cuffs
- Purl 2 Together (p2tog): A decrease stitch used to shape the garment, particularly in armhole shaping and waist shaping
- Knit Stitches: Standard knit stitches form the foundation of the stockinette stitch sections
Materials and Specifications
Yarn Weight: The pattern calls for 4-ply yarn, which is a lightweight yarn suitable for children's garments and detailed colorwork. The specific yarn amounts are based on average requirements when the specified tension and yarn type are used.
Needles: The pattern uses two needle sizes. Smaller 2¾mm needles are used for the ribbed sections to create elasticity and a neat finish. Larger 3¼mm needles are used for the main stockinette stitch sections worked in the intarsia design.
Pattern Construction: The pattern provides multiple size options, with varying stitch counts and row numbers indicated in brackets throughout. This allows the sweater to be customized for different children's sizes. Cast-on stitches range from 70 stitches for the smallest size, with increases for larger sizes up to 102 stitches.
Pattern Structure Details
The sweater is constructed in separate pieces: a back panel and a front panel. The back is worked first, establishing the base measurements and shaping. The front follows similar construction methods with the intarsia moniker chart integrated into the stockinette stitch sections. Armhole shaping is achieved through decreasing one stitch at each end of every row over several rows, creating fitted sleeve openings. The pattern specifies exact row counts for different sections, with variations for each size range.
Ribbed sections are worked before transitioning to larger needles and stockinette stitch, and the pattern includes detailed instructions for managing stitch holders for later finishing work, such as neckline completion.
