Product Description
I went to Pennsylvania this year expecting to fetch my Mother and ended up on a journey that changed both our lives. I spent a LOT of time in Lancaster, a beautiful city and I hope to return one day for fun. It was one of the most significant experiences in my life. I met some amazing people there who helped me realize we are all on journeys of one sort or another.
That’s where I happened across the beautiful yarn from Whorled Peace. Kellie (aka Whorled Peace) is from Lancaster. Because I love her yarn so much using it for Socktoberfest made perfect sense. Perfect colors to wear with blue jeans! With soft yarn and subdued colors, an easy pattern to remember and a quick knit, this is a “grab and go" project. After all, it’s a Journey Sock.
SO LET THE JOURNEY BEGIN…
Knit from cuff to toe the pattern is easily remembered and fits a variety of foot widths easily.
Journey Socks by Phyll Lagerman
Project Overview
Journey Socks is a downloadable knitting pattern designed by Phyll Lagerman, created as an intermediate-level sock project. This pattern celebrates a personal journey and meaningful travel experience, resulting in a practical yet thoughtfully designed accessory perfect for everyday wear. The socks feature subdued, versatile colors that pair beautifully with blue jeans, making them an ideal addition to any wardrobe.
What Is Being Made
This pattern creates a pair of socks using the top-down construction method on double pointed needles. The finished socks are designed with soft yarn and feature an easy-to-remember stitch pattern, making them an accessible project for knitters seeking a quick and satisfying knit. The socks are described as a "grab and go" project, ideal for knitters who want a portable, straightforward pattern that doesn't require constant pattern consultation.
Knitting Techniques
The Journey Socks pattern employs fundamental sock knitting techniques suitable for intermediate knitters. The project uses the double pointed needle method, a traditional approach for creating seamless, circular socks. This technique allows knitters to work in the round continuously, eliminating the need for seaming. The pattern is designed to be easy to remember, making it accessible for knitters who may be newer to sock construction while still providing an engaging project for more experienced crafters.
Stitches and Construction
While the complete stitch details are not fully specified in the provided materials, the pattern utilizes straightforward stitchwork appropriate for 4-ply yarn weight. The gauge is established at 7.5 stitches per 1 inch, which is typical for sock knitting and helps create a fabric with the right balance of elasticity and durability for foot wear. The uncomplicated stitch pattern is intentionally designed to be memorable and quick to execute, allowing knitters to focus on the meditative aspects of sock knitting without complex pattern tracking.
