Product Description
Khaki Cardigan in Rowan Summerlite DK & Kidsilk Haze
What is Being Made
The Khaki Cardigan is a women's knitted cardigan designed by Quail Studio and published by Rowan. This garment is available in five sizes to fit bust measurements ranging from 81-86 cm (32-34 inches) through to 122-127 cm (48-50 inches), with finished bust measurements between 121 cm (47¾ inches) and 161 cm (63½ inches). The cardigan features a front opening with a neckband and is constructed with shaped front slopes for a fitted silhouette.
Knitting Techniques Used
This intermediate-level knitting project employs several key techniques. The garment is worked primarily in ribbed stitch throughout, which is established at the beginning and maintained as the foundation stitch pattern. Shaping is achieved through strategic decreasing at the front opening edge, with decreases worked on alternating 4th and 6th rows to create the front slope. The construction involves working separate pieces—including a back, left front, and right front—which are then joined together. A neckband is created by slipping stitches onto a holder at the centre neck and then working them separately to finish the neck opening.
Stitches and Stitch Patterns
The primary stitch used throughout the Khaki Cardigan is rib stitch, which provides elasticity and structure to the finished garment. The ribbed pattern is worked consistently from the cast-on edge through to the completion of each piece, creating a classic, fitted appearance. Decreasing is used strategically to shape the front slope, with decreases positioned at the front opening edge to create the cardigan's contoured front edges.
Yarn and Materials
This cardigan is designed to be worked using two yarns held together throughout. Yarn A is Rowan Summerlite DK in the colourway Khaki, with yardage requirements of 461 metres total, requiring 15-17 balls of 50 grams depending on size. Yarn B is Rowan Kidsilk Haze in the colourway Drab 611, with yardage requirements totalling between 10-11 metres, requiring 10-11 balls of 25 grams depending on size. The combination of DK weight and lace-weight yarns creates a lightweight, breathable fabric suitable for warmer seasons.
The pattern specifies 4½mm (US 7) needles for the main body of the cardigan. A stitch holder is also required for holding the centre neck stitches during construction.
Pattern Information
