Kyvannet Strand Headband by Stav Salpeter

What is Being Made

The Kyvannet Strand is a double-knit headband designed by independent designer Stav Salpeter. Inspired by Kyvannet, a scenic lake near Trondheim, Norway, this headband features an infinity motif that references the lake's dual origins as two smaller ponds that merged over time. The double-knit construction allows the wearer to reverse the headband to display different colorways, making it a versatile accessory suitable for year-round wear and seasonal style changes.

Techniques and Construction

This is an intermediate-level knitting project that employs double-knit technique as its primary construction method. Double-knitting creates a reversible fabric with two distinct sides, enabling wearers to alternate between different color patterns depending on the season or desired aesthetic. The infinity shape pattern is integrated into the knit structure itself, creating visual interest while maintaining the functional warmth needed for cold-weather wear.

Stitches Used

While specific stitch abbreviations are not detailed in the provided pattern information, the double-knit technique involves working multiple stitches in a coordinated manner to build the reversible fabric structure. The pattern creates an infinity motif through strategic stitch placement and color changes within the double-knit framework.

Materials and Specifications

  • Yarn Weight: 4-ply, DK (Double Knit), or Sport weight yarn
  • Needles: 2.75 mm (US Size 2, UK Size 12)
  • Gauge: 24 stitches per 10 cm (4 inches)

The specified gauge is essential for achieving proper fit and drape in this headband design. The needle size and yarn weight combination creates a fabric dense enough to provide warmth while remaining lightweight and comfortable for extended wear around the head.
