Meadow of Flowers Wrap by Ana Morais Soares
Project Overview
The Meadow of Flowers Wrap is an intermediate-level crochet scarf designed by Ana Morais Soares of One Skein of Love. This downloadable crochet pattern creates a finished wrap measuring approximately 12 inches by 71 inches (30 cm by 180 cm), making it a versatile accessory suitable for layering and styling.
What Is Being Made
This pattern produces a crocheted wrap or scarf featuring a multicolor design inspired by a meadow of flowers. The wrap is constructed using five coordinated yarn colors that work together to create visual interest and depth throughout the finished piece. The rectangular dimensions make this wrap suitable for wearing as a traditional scarf, shawl, or decorative wrap.
Craft and Techniques
The Meadow of Flowers Wrap is created using the crochet technique, a fiber arts method that uses a single hook to form loops and stitches from yarn. Crochet allows for flexible fabric construction and is known for creating textured, dimensional pieces. This intermediate-level project requires familiarity with fundamental crochet techniques and the ability to follow pattern instructions involving multiple colors and stitch variations.
Stitches Used
- Chain (Ch): The foundation stitch used to begin crochet projects and create base loops
- Half Double Crochet (Hdc): A medium-height stitch created by yarning over the hook, inserting into the indicated stitch or space, pulling up a loop, then drawing yarn through all loops on the hook simultaneously
- Double Crochet (Dc): A taller stitch formed by yarning over the hook, inserting into the indicated stitch or space, pulling up a loop, then drawing yarn through two loops at a time in two separate motions
- Slip Stitch (Sl st): A joining stitch used to connect rounds or close sections without adding height
Materials and Yarn Specifications
The Meadow of Flowers Wrap is worked in Durable Cosy Extra Fine yarn, a sport-weight yarn that provides excellent stitch definition and drape for wrap projects. The pattern requires a total of five skeins across five coordinated colors:
- Color A (249): 2 skeins
- Color B (2212): 1 skein
- Color C (343): 1 skein
- Color D (203): 1 skein
- Color E (228): 1 skein
Each skein of Durable Cosy Extra Fine contains 50 grams of yarn and yields 180 meters (196 yards), providing ample yardage for this wrap project. A 3 mm crochet hook is used throughout the pattern, and a tapestry needle is required for weaving in yarn ends and finishing the piece.
Skill Level
This pattern is rated as intermediate difficulty, making it suitable for crocheters who have mastered basic stitches and are comfortable working with multiple colors and following more complex pattern instructions.
