Product Description
Tulipa Hollandia, a strong red and regal tulip, with its lofty and stately petals most certainly commands attention. This beautiful flower is gentle yet stately, delicate yet tenacious. Tulipa Hollandia, a seemingly innocent flower, packs a mighty punch! The design of this wrap, with its shaping and stitch pattern, is my way to pay homage to this very tulip, showing the contrast between subtlety and strength, and in that oh so intensely powerful red.
The pattern includes charts, as well as fully written, line by line instructions.
Construction: The wrap is knit from tip to tip, growing with the addition of each motif until the full width is reached. A stockinette and lace combination is worked through the centre to the desired length, at which point the lace panel begins again. Prefer it longer, or perhaps narrower? This wrap can easily be altered in length and width.
The bobbles have been crocheted (photo tutorial included), however they can be knitted, or even substituted with beads!
Tulipa Hollandia Knit Shawl Pattern
What is Being Made
Tulipa Hollandia is a downloadable knitting pattern for a wrap-style shawl designed by Nora.Bea.Knits. The design draws inspiration from the Tulipa Hollandia flower, a striking red tulip known for its lofty, stately petals. The shawl captures the contrast between the flower's delicate appearance and its inherent strength, translating this aesthetic into a wearable wrap that grows progressively wider as you knit.
Pattern Structure and Design
The Tulipa Hollandia shawl is knit from point to point, a construction method that allows for significant customization. The pattern features an easy-to-memorize motif that repeats throughout the project, making it accessible for intermediate-level knitters while maintaining visual interest as the width of the wrap expands with each additional repeat. The stitch pattern and shaping work together to evoke the distinctive character of the tulip that inspired the design.
Customization Options
One of the key advantages of this pattern is its flexibility. Knitters can adjust both the length and width of the finished wrap to suit their preferences:
- Add more repeats to create a longer wrap
- Adjust the number of repeats across the width for a narrower or wider finished piece
Techniques and Stitches
The pattern employs a repeating stitch motif that remains consistent throughout the project, offering variety in the visual design while keeping the knitting process straightforward. The point-to-point construction method allows the wrap to expand organically, with additional motifs incorporated as the piece reaches its full width. This approach is well-suited to intermediate knitters who are comfortable with following stitch patterns and managing shaping increases.
Materials
Tulipa Hollandia is designed to be worked in 4-ply yarn weight, which provides a delicate fabric appropriate for a wrap-style shawl. Specific yarn quantities and needle size recommendations are included in the downloadable PDF pattern.
Difficulty Level
This pattern is rated as intermediate difficulty, making it suitable for knitters with some experience who are ready to work with repeating motifs and point-to-point construction techniques.
