Product Description
Gold Arrow sweater is a simple and very intuitive top down. It is my first top down created entirely by me, with the addition of a contrasting colour: gold. In order to make it as customisable as possible, I included two versions for the sleeves, one wider and softer and the second more enveloping.
Materials:
· La carezza del panda: MC = Avio n° 1640 CC = Ocra n° 102
(Other similar yarns suggested: Bravo Originals and Promo-fin)
· Yarn weight: DK
· Needles (3.50 and 3.00 mm) – USA (4 and 2 ½)
· Scissors
· Stitch marker
Gauge:
20 stitches x 28 rounds = 10 cm (4 inches) in stockinette, with larger needle
In the photo: M with a 4 cm ease.
Gold Arrow Sweater by CreazioniArtEC
What Is Being Made
The Gold Arrow Sweater is a top-down knitted pullover designed by CreazioniArtEC. This intermediate-level garment features a contrasting color accent in gold, creating an arrow motif detail. The sweater is highly customizable and available in seven sizes ranging from XS to XXXL, making it accessible for a wide range of body measurements.
Construction Method
This sweater is constructed using the top-down method, meaning knitting begins at the neckline and progresses downward toward the hem. The designer notes this was their first top-down design created entirely by them, incorporating thoughtful customization options. The pattern includes two distinct sleeve variations to suit different style preferences: one wider and softer sleeve option and a second more enveloping sleeve design. This flexibility allows knitters to choose the silhouette that best matches their desired fit and aesthetic.
Stitches and Techniques
The Gold Arrow Sweater is worked primarily in stockinette stitch, the foundational knit stitch that creates a smooth, classic fabric. The pattern employs contrasting color knitting to introduce the gold accent detail that defines the arrow element. Standard knitting techniques include casting on, working in rounds, and managing stitch markers to track progress. The pattern uses abbreviations including CO (cast on), Bor (beginning of round), CC (contrasting color), and K (knit).
Materials and Yarn Specifications
The Gold Arrow Sweater is designed for DK weight yarn, a medium-light yarn weight that creates a comfortable, breathable fabric suitable for everyday wear. The original pattern calls for La carezza del panda yarn in two colors: the main color Avio (shade n° 1640) and the contrasting color Ocra (shade n° 102). Alternative yarns with similar characteristics are suggested, including Bravo Originals and Promo-fin, allowing knitters flexibility in fiber choice while maintaining consistent gauge and drape.
Yarn yardage requirements vary by size:
- XS: 1031 meters (1127 yards) main color, 130 meters (142 yards) contrasting color
- S: 1133 meters (1239 yards) main color, 170 meters (186 yards) contrasting color
- M: 1140 meters (1246 yards) main color, 190 meters (208 yards) contrasting color
- L: 1334 meters (1459 yards) main color, 240 meters (262 yards) contrasting color
- XL: 1433 meters (1567 yards) main color, 270 meters (295 yards) contrasting color
- XXL: 1535 meters (1679 yards) main color, 310 meters (339 yards) contrasting color
- XXXL: 1636 meters (1789 yards) main color, 380 meters (415 yards) contrasting color
Tools Required
Knitting needles in two sizes are essential for this project: 3.50 mm needles (US size 4) for the main fabric and 3.00 mm needles (US size 2½) for ribbed sections. Additional tools include scissors for cutting yarn and stitch markers for tracking pattern repeats and round beginnings.
Gauge
Achieving the correct gauge is critical for proper fit. The Gold Arrow Sweater is designed to a gauge of 20 stitches by 28 rounds over 10 centimeters (4 inches) in stockinette stitch, worked with the larger 3.50 mm needle. Knitters should swatch before beginning to ensure their personal gauge matches this specification.
Skill Level
This pattern is rated as intermediate difficulty, suitable for knitters with foundational skills in casting on, knitting in the round, and managing multiple colors. The top-down construction method and customizable sleeve options make it an engaging project for those building their knitting repertoire.
