Product Description

A knitting pattern that will make you chuckle and bring joy to every tea time - the Gone Fishing Tea Cosy.

Anglers always seem to wear earthy colours, I suppose to blend in so that the fish don't see them. So this fishing man is wearing brown trousers and a dark green body warmer over a blue jumper. I have given him a traditional fishing hat complete with fishing fly.

He's doing well, and the fish are biting today; he has already caught one and it's in his keep net. But he is having a spot of bother with his bait, and the worms are trying to escape! You can't blame them really.

He's a lovely tea cosy for anyone who enjoys fishing and lazing around a river bank.

The Gone Fishing tea cosy fits a medium sized teapot that covers a Teapot that holds 6 to 8 cups.

The pattern will be available for digital download as soon as you have completed purchase, so you could start knitting him very soon!

This product is the knitting pattern only to make your own Gone Fishing tea cosy.

Gone Fishing Tea Cosy Knitting Pattern

What is Being Made

The Gone Fishing Tea Cosy is a charming knitted tea cosy designed by TeaCosyFolk. This decorative cover is crafted to fit a 2-cup teapot and features a whimsical fishing-themed design. The tea cosy combines functional insulation for your teapot with creative visual appeal, making it an ideal handmade gift or personal accessory for tea enthusiasts.

Craft and Techniques

This project uses knitting as the primary construction method. The pattern employs stocking stitch as a fundamental technique, which involves alternating knit rows on the right side with purl rows on the wrong side to create a smooth, classic fabric texture. The design incorporates colorwork elements using multiple yarn colors to build the fishing-themed motif. Additional embellishment techniques include embroidery work for facial details and bead application for dimensional eyes, adding character and definition to the finished piece.

Stitches Used

  • Stocking Stitch: The primary stitch throughout the pattern, created by knitting on right-side rows and purling on wrong-side rows to produce a flat, uniform fabric
  • Cast-on and cast-off stitches: Used to begin and finish the knitted sections
  • Embroidery stitches: Applied for adding facial features in black yarn

Materials and Tools

This intermediate-level project requires DK weight yarn in multiple colors from Stylecraft Special DK range: Bottle (29g), Copper (19g), Toy (11g), Mocha (10g), Dark Brown (8g), Cornish Blue (7g), Silver (6g), Fondent (3g), Lipstick (2g), and Grass Green (2g). A small amount of Black DK yarn is needed for embroidery work. Three sets of knitting needles in different sizes are required: 5.5mm (UK size 5 / US size 9), 4.00mm (UK size 8 / US size 6), and 3.25mm (UK size 10 / US size 3). Additional materials include a stitch holder for managing active stitches, 10 black 5mm beads for eyes, and 1 bamboo 4.5mm knitting needle for rod construction, which adds structural support to the design.

Difficulty Level

Rated as intermediate, this pattern is suitable for knitters with foundational skills who are ready to tackle colorwork, multiple needle sizes, and embellishment techniques. The combination of stocking stitch with color changes and bead application makes it an engaging project that builds confidence in intermediate-level crafting.
