Product Description
The word "cloche" is French for bell. Popular during the flapper era, a cloche hat (or simply “cloche”) is a snug fitting bell shaped hat, with or without a brim. This pattern features six sizes from “Newborn” to “Women XL”, ideal for a Mom ’n Me matching duo.
Each size cloche has three lace pattern repeats. All sizes have individual written instructions and a complete chart of one lace repeat for that size. Lace knitting requires yarnover increases and a variety of familiar decreases. If you’re comfortable with lace knitting or ready for a new challenge, this pattern should be an easy one to follow.
The sample hats are knit in Red Heart Supersaver yarn with a 17 stitch = 4"/10cm gauge. Any similar worsted weight yarn will also work. One 7 oz. skein of Supersaver will make at least three hats for mom and the young girls in a family.
This makes an ideal gift for a baby shower or birthday party. Gift tags to print are also included in the pattern.

What Is Being Made
The Mom 'n Me Cloche Hats pattern features a collection of six coordinating cloche hat designs, ranging from newborn to woman's XL sizes. A cloche is a classic bell-shaped hat with a snug fit, inspired by the iconic styles popularized during the 1920s and 30s flapper era. The word "cloche" comes from French, meaning bell, which perfectly describes the distinctive silhouette of this vintage-inspired hat. This pattern set is specifically designed to allow parents and children to create matching pairs, making it ideal for coordinated family looks.
Pattern Sizes Included
This comprehensive pattern includes individual instructions for six distinct sizes:
- Newborn: Designed for newborns up to 3-6 months
- Baby/Toddler: Sized for babies 6-12 months and toddlers 1-3 years
- Child: Appropriate for children's sizing
- Teen/Woman's Small: Suitable for teens and women with smaller head measurements
- Woman's Medium and Large: Additional sizes for adult women
- Woman's XL: Extended sizing for larger head circumferences
Knitting Techniques Used
The Mom 'n Me Cloche Hats utilize fundamental and intermediate knitting techniques appropriate for crafters with some experience. The pattern employs both written instructions and accompanying stitch charts for each size, allowing knitters to follow either method based on their preference. The construction of these bell-shaped hats involves shaping techniques that create the characteristic fitted crown and optional brim detail. Knitters will work through complete pattern repeats as outlined in the individual size sections, building the hat from the crown down or using the construction method specified in the detailed instructions.
Stitches and Stitch Work
While specific stitch abbreviations are referenced in the pattern's abbreviations section, the cloche hat design incorporates classic knitting stitches commonly used in hat construction. The pattern includes stitch charts for visual reference, enabling knitters to follow the stitch patterns graphically. The bell-shaped silhouette is achieved through strategic increases and decreases that shape the hat's distinctive form, combined with the stitch patterns that create texture and visual interest in the finished garment.
Materials: Yarn and Needles
The Mom 'n Me Cloche Hats pattern calls for yarn in aran or worsted weight, both of which are medium-weight yarns ideal for creating structured, warm hats with good stitch definition. These yarn weights provide the appropriate fabric density needed for the fitted cloche silhouette while remaining comfortable for extended wear. The pattern specifies gauge requirements to ensure proper fit across all six sizes. Knitters will need appropriate needles sized to work with their chosen aran or worsted weight yarn, with needle size determined by the specific yarn selected and the gauge specified in the pattern instructions.
Difficulty Level
Rated as intermediate difficulty, the Mom 'n Me Cloche Hats pattern is suitable for knitters who have progressed beyond basic skills and are comfortable with shaping techniques, reading charts, and following multi-size patterns. The intermediate classification reflects the hat construction methods and the need to manage increases and decreases to achieve the proper cloche shape.
Pattern Format
This pattern is provided as a downloadable PDF, making it convenient for digital access and printing. The PDF format includes the complete table of contents, all six size variations with individual written instructions, accompanying stitch charts, yarn and gauge information, notions list, and abbreviations guide, allowing knitters to have all necessary information in one organized document.
