Product Description
With just a few different stitches and a couple hours, you can make a beanie that's full of fun and texture. The Angelica Beanie features a band of zig-zagging popcorn stitches which makes this beanie look far more difficult than it truly is.
The pattern makes a beanie that's one size fits most adults. You'll need approximately 140 yards of a worsted weight yarn of your fiber choice. (Featured yarn is Sundance Synergy which is an acrylic/wool blend.) You'll also need a US-J hook, tapestry needle, and scissors. Although I didn't add a pom-pom on top, you certainly could to add another pop of fun to this design.
Not only does this pattern work up in just a couple hours or less, it's a perfect stash-busting project, as well!
Angelica Beanie by Alicia LaFontaine
What Is Being Made
The Angelica Beanie is a one-size-fits-most adult hat designed by independent designer Alicia LaFontaine. This intermediate-level crochet project creates a finished beanie suitable for everyday wear, crafted using worsted and aran weight yarns.
Crochet Techniques Used
This beanie is worked in the round using continuous rounds rather than turning at the end of each round, which creates a seamless construction. The pattern employs post stitches and specialty stitch techniques to add texture and visual interest to the finished hat. The design demonstrates intermediate crochet skills, making it suitable for crafters with some experience beyond basic stitches.
Stitches Used
The Angelica Beanie incorporates the following crochet stitches:
- Chain stitch (ch) – used for foundation and construction
- Single crochet (sc) – a fundamental stitch used throughout the pattern
- Double crochet (dc) – provides height and drape to the fabric
- Slip stitch (sl st) – used for joining rounds and securing stitches
- Front-Post Double Crochet (fpdc) – a textured stitch worked through the post of stitches from the previous row, creating dimensional ribbing or cable effects
- Popcorn stitch (pop) – a decorative bobble stitch that adds textural elements
The pattern notes that chain-1 and chain-2 do not count as stitches throughout the design, which affects stitch counts and pattern construction.
Materials and Tools
The Angelica Beanie requires approximately 140 yards of worsted weight yarn in the fiber of your choice, allowing for customization based on personal preference and desired drape. A US-J 10/6.00mm crochet hook is used to achieve the correct gauge. Additional materials include a tapestry needle for weaving in ends and scissors for cutting yarn.
Gauge and Sizing
The pattern is worked to a gauge of 4 double crochets over 1 inch in width across 2 rows. Maintaining this gauge is essential for achieving the finished dimensions specified in the pattern. The designer notes that any deviation from the width or length detailed in the pattern instructions will likely result in different yardage requirements than the 140 yards listed.
