What you'll need
Product Description
This little blue tit loves the feeling of flying through the bright blue sky on a summer's day.
This pattern works up super quickly in 1-2 hours so it would make a perfect gift! It would be a lovely decoration for a houseplant, decorative branch, or shelf.
This pattern has plenty of helpful photos to show you how the bird should look at certain stages. It is written in English using US terminology but is easy to understand for those who use English terms as the only different stitch is sc (dc in English terms). The blue tit measures 5cm tall. It is fine to sell small numbers of finished items made from this pattern but please credit me (Woolly Wilderness) as the designer.
Blue Tit Amigurumi Pattern by Woolly Wilderness
What is Being Made
This downloadable crochet pattern creates a Blue Tit amigurumi, a small stuffed toy bird standing approximately 5 centimeters tall. Amigurumi is the Japanese craft of crocheting small, three-dimensional stuffed animals and creatures. The finished blue tit is a decorative toy suitable for display, gifts, or collection.
Craft and Techniques
This project uses crochet as the primary construction method. The pattern is rated at intermediate skill level and requires approximately 1.5 hours to complete. The design features multiple color changes throughout the construction, which adds complexity to the project. The pattern uses a magic ring technique to begin working in the round, a common method in amigurumi for creating seamless circular shapes.
Stitches Used
The Blue Tit pattern employs fundamental crochet stitches essential to amigurumi construction:
- Single crochet (sc) – the primary stitch used throughout the pattern for building the body and shaping
- Increase (inc) – created by working 2 single crochets in the same stitch to expand the fabric
- Decrease (dec) – using invisible decrease technique to reduce stitches and shape the toy while maintaining a neat appearance
The pattern notation uses parentheses to indicate repeated stitch sequences, with the repetition count specified to the right of the bracketed stitches.
Materials and Yarn
The pattern calls for DK weight yarn and a 3.00mm crochet hook. The designer used Stylecraft Special DK yarn in five specific colors:
- White – approximately 2.2 meters
- Graphite – approximately 2.8 meters
- Pistachio (the lighter shade of green) – approximately 1.7 meters
- Meadow – approximately 7.9 meters
- Storm blue – approximately 6.1 meters
The pattern achieves a gauge of 1.5 inches. Note: Different hook sizes, yarn weights, or gauges will alter the final size of the completed blue tit. Capital letters in the pattern indicate the start of each color change, helping crafters navigate the frequent color transitions required for this realistic bird design.
