Product Description

This is a corner to corner crochet version of my Letter J chart, this version includes a c2c picture chart and a colour-coded written version for those who prefer to follow worded instructions. I have also included a "how to corner to corner crochet" guide for those who might not have crocheted an image. The guide also has a border option for those who may want to add a decorative edge to their finished blanket.

The finished blanket will be a different size depending on the yarn you use (using 4ply gives you a lovely baby blanket size)

Sizes - 4ply: 60x70cm, DK: 80x90 cm, Aran: 90x100cm, Chunky: 100x110cm

C2C Letter J Corner to Corner Blanket

Project Overview

This downloadable crochet pattern from designer EJ Heywood features a Corner to Corner (C2C) blanket displaying the letter J as the focal design element. The finished blanket measures 82 stitches by 82 rows, creating a substantial throw-sized project suitable for display or functional use. The design uses a classic color combination of White and Denim yarn, allowing the letter to stand out against a contrasting background.

Craft Technique: Corner to Corner Crochet

The Corner to Corner method is a popular crochet technique that builds a blanket diagonally from one corner to the opposite corner. This approach offers several advantages for crafters: it eliminates the need for weaving in numerous ends, allows for easy color changes to create pixel-art style designs, and provides natural stopping points if you need to pause your work. The technique works particularly well for creating graphical designs like letters, as the grid-based structure translates perfectly from chart to finished fabric.

Stitches and Construction

While the specific stitch instructions are contained within the full pattern PDF, C2C blankets typically utilize double crochet stitches worked in a grid formation. The pattern progresses row by row, with color changes incorporated to build the letter J design from the provided picture chart. The numbered grid system (1-82 on both axes) guides the crafter through each step, making it accessible for intermediate-level crocheters who have mastered basic stitches and color-changing techniques.

Materials and Yarn Weight

This pattern is designed for DK weight yarn, a lightweight yarn that creates a fabric with good drape and relatively quick stitch definition. DK weight is ideal for blanket projects as it produces a balanced fabric that is neither too dense nor too loose. You will need a crochet hook appropriately sized for DK yarn (typically a US size E/4mm or F/5mm hook, depending on your tension preferences). The color palette requires both White and Denim yarn in sufficient quantities to complete the 82x82 stitch grid.

Pattern Format and Versatility

Provided as a downloadable PDF, this pattern features a clear picture chart that makes it easy to follow the design progression. The designer notes that Instarsia charts are interchangeable and can be used for multiple crochet and knitting applications beyond corner to corner blankets, offering flexibility for creative adaptations. The chart format allows crafters to work from a visual guide rather than written row-by-row instructions, which many find intuitive for graphical projects.

Finished Project Characteristics

Upon completion, this C2C blanket will display a bold, pixelated letter J design characteristic of the corner to corner technique. The finished size and drape will depend on your specific yarn choice and hook size, but the DK weight recommendation ensures a medium-weight throw suitable for decorative display or functional warmth. The geometric nature of the C2C method means the letter will have clean, stepped edges rather than smooth curves, which is part of the charm and appeal of this technique.

Designer and Pattern Source

This pattern is created by EJ HeywoodInstarsia. The designer offers a range of interchangeable chart patterns available through instarsia.co.uk, allowing crafters to create multiple personalized projects using different letters, numbers, or designs with the same C2C technique.
