Product Description
This pattern came about from a conversation held in the [Colourmart Lovers][1] Group on Ravelry. It was decided as a group to produce a collection of designs that showcase the beauty of [Colourmart yarns][2]. I use Colourmart yarns in many of my designs as they are a wonderful product at a very reasonable price. Because of Colourmart I can afford to use a luxury yarn such as cashmere or silk to add beauty to my finished design. I’d like to thank everyone in the group that worked so hard to bring this collection together and encourage you to check out both the yarns and the [other designs][3].

What is Being Made
The Crosslita Cowl is a textured crochet cowl designed by Sarah Jane Designs, featuring a classic neckwarmer perfect for keeping warm on chilly days. This versatile accessory pairs beautifully with jeans and everyday casual wear. The cowl is decorated with an oversized crocheted flower, adding visual interest and dimension to the finished piece. Available in three sizes to accommodate different neck circumferences, this design offers a practical yet stylish solution for layering during cooler weather.
Difficulty Level and Suitability
The Crosslita Cowl is rated as an intermediate project, making it suitable for advanced beginner crocheters. While the stitches used are relatively simple and straightforward, the combination of techniques and the construction method require some foundational crochet experience to execute successfully.
Crochet Stitches Used
- Chain stitch (ch) – The foundation stitch used to create the base of the cowl
- Single crochet (sc) – A basic, tight stitch that creates texture and structure
- Double crochet (dc) – A taller stitch used to build height and drape in the fabric
- Half double crochet (hdc) – A medium-height stitch providing balance between single and double crochet
- Cross stitch (Xst) – A decorative stitch that creates the textured pattern characteristic of this cowl
- Slip stitch (sl st) – Used for joining rounds and securing stitches without adding height
Techniques and Construction
The Crosslita Cowl employs simple crochet stitches combined in a way that creates visual texture throughout the piece. The primary construction technique involves working in rounds to form the tubular cowl shape. The cross stitch pattern is the key textural element that distinguishes this design, creating an interesting surface that catches light and adds dimension. The cowl is then embellished with a separately crocheted oversized flower that is attached to the finished cowl, adding a decorative focal point.
Sizing and Measurements
The pattern is provided in three sizes to fit different wearers:
- Small: 20 inches (50 cm) circumference
- Medium: 22 inches (55 cm) circumference
- Large: 24 inches (60 cm) circumference
- Width: 8½ inches (21.5 cm) for all sizes
- Flower diameter: 5½ inches (14 cm)
Materials and Yarn Requirements
