Product Description
Ezi is a soft and cuddly bear who loves laying around with a cozy blanket with a box of cookies.
This pattern is worked tightly on a spiral, instead of turning at the end of each round you’ll continue over the first stitch of the previous round. You can use a stitch marker to make sure you don’t lose your first round.
This pattern is written in US Crochet terms with many photos of each step and printer friendly version in the last page.
The size of your Ezi bear will depend on your yarn and the hook size you use, mine is 9.5in/24.5cm sitting and 13in/33cm stretched out, he was made with Lion Brand Vel-Luxe yarn in Lilac and a 4.5mm hook.

Ezi the Bear Amigurumi Crochet Pattern
What is Being Made
Ezi the Bear is a crocheted amigurumi toy designed by The Stitch Marker. This stuffed bear figure is created as a three-dimensional sculptural piece, with finished dimensions of approximately 9.5 inches (24.5 cm) when sitting and 13 inches (33 cm) when stretched out. The amigurumi technique produces a soft, huggable toy suitable for display or play.
Crochet Techniques and Construction Method
This pattern employs the spiral crochet method, a fundamental amigurumi construction technique. Rather than turning at the end of each round as in traditional crochet, the spiral method continues working over the first stitch of the previous round without breaks. This creates seamless, continuous rounds that form the basis of the three-dimensional bear shape. Stitch markers are recommended throughout the project to track the first stitch of each round and prevent losing your place during the spiral construction.
The pattern is worked tightly to ensure the finished toy maintains its shape and prevents stuffing from showing through the fabric. This tight gauge is essential for amigurumi durability and appearance.
Stitches Used
While specific stitch abbreviations are detailed on the final pages of the pattern (including a dedicated US Crochet terms reference), the pattern utilizes standard crochet stitches common to amigurumi construction. The pattern notation uses brackets [ ] to indicate the total stitch count at the end of each round and parenthesis ( ) to denote repeating sections, helping crafters track their progress and maintain consistent shaping throughout the bear's body and features.
Materials Required
- Yarn: 1 cake of Lion Brand Vel-Luxe yarn in super chunky weight
- Hook: 4.5 mm crochet hook
- Safety eyes: 12 mm safety eyes (optional; embroidery is an alternative)
- Embroidery thread: Thread in your color choice for nose and eye details
- Needles: Darning needle and embroidery needle for finishing
- Stuffing: Polyester fiberfill or similar for filling the bear

Difficulty Level
This pattern is rated as intermediate difficulty. Crafters should have foundational crochet knowledge and experience with basic stitches before beginning. The spiral construction method and tight gauge required for amigurumi, combined with the shaping techniques needed to form a recognizable bear, make this project suitable for those with some crochet experience rather than absolute beginners.

Ezi the Bear is provided as a downloadable PDF pattern for personal use only. The pattern includes a printer-friendly version on the final page, making it convenient to reference while working. All text and images are copyright The Stitch Marker, 2020.
