Product Description

The Ivy Lane Infinity Scarf is designed to be a light-weight skinny scarf that can be wrapped around three times, making it a perfect accessory and for Spring.

The pattern is intermediate level as I recommend using FSC for the starting chain. The rest of the scarf is an easy one row repeat.

This pattern was designed in collaboration with the 2021 Furls Blog Hop.

This pattern as all of my patterns has been thoroughly tested by testers of different skill level.

Due to the nature of the pdf files sales, I will not refund any patterns. However, I am always available via email or a message here on Ravelry if you have any questions about the patterns.

You may sell what you products from my patterns, but the pattern itself is copyrighted and may not be shared or changed in part or in whole. My photos are also copyrighted and may never be used to sell the products you make.

Ivy Lane Infinity Scarf Crochet Pattern

What Is Being Made

The Ivy Lane Infinity Scarf is a circular, loop-style scarf created using the crochet technique. This infinity scarf design is worked in the round, creating a continuous loop that can be worn doubled around the neck or styled in multiple ways. When laid flat before joining, the scarf measures approximately 110 inches in length, providing generous coverage and versatility in wear.

Craft and Technique Overview

This is an intermediate-level crochet project suitable for crafters with foundational crochet skills. The pattern employs a circular construction method, where the scarf is worked by joining a foundation chain and then continuing in rounds rather than in traditional flat rows. This technique creates a seamless, tubular structure characteristic of infinity scarves.

The pattern uses Foundation Single Crochet (FSC) as the starting method, which is recommended by the designer for this particular pattern. This technique creates a more stable and professional-looking foundation compared to traditional chain-based beginnings. The scarf can be customized for width by continuing the repeat round, allowing crafters to adjust the finished dimensions to their preference.

Stitches Used

The Ivy Lane Infinity Scarf incorporates several fundamental crochet stitches:

  • Foundation Single Crochet (FSC) – Used to establish the initial foundation
  • Single Crochet (SC) – A basic, tight stitch used throughout the pattern
  • Double Crochet (DC) – A taller stitch that adds texture and drape
  • Slip Stitch (Slst) – Used to join rounds seamlessly
  • Chain Stitch (Ch) – Creates spaces and structural elements

The pattern incorporates shell stitches, where each bump or stitch combination counts as one shell unit. Special attention is given to chain spacing (chsp), with specific notes regarding which beginning chains count as stitches in different rounds—beginning ch1 does not count as a stitch, while beginning ch2 only counts as a stitch in round 2.

Materials and Tools

This project requires 160 to 180 yards of #4 worsted weight yarn, distributed across three coordinating colors:

  • Colour 1: Approximately 70 yards
  • Colour 2: Approximately 35 yards
  • Colour 3: Approximately 60 yards

The pattern specifies Furls Whims Merino yarn in the colorways Purple, Lavender, and Charcoal, though any worsted weight yarn of similar fiber content and yardage can be substituted. Worsted weight yarn provides excellent stitch definition and creates a fabric with good drape suitable for scarves.

Essential tools include a US size I/9 (5.5mm) crochet hook, scissors for cutting yarn, a yarn needle for weaving in ends, and a tape measure for checking dimensions and gauge. The pattern notes that gauge is not critical for this project, making it more forgiving for crafters with varying tension.

Pattern Structure and Notes

The Ivy Lane Infinity Scarf follows a round-based construction pattern using US crochet terminology. The design is worked in the round from a joined foundation, creating a continuous loop without seams. The repeating round structure allows for customization—crafters can make the scarf wider by continuing the repeat round beyond the standard pattern instructions, adapting the finished scarf to their desired dimensions.
