Knitting Pattern Round Cotton Rug
Project Overview
This knitting pattern, designed by Dana Young and published by HitsKnitsPatterns, provides instructions for creating a knitted round rug with fringes. The finished piece measures 50 cm (20 inches) in diameter without fringes and 58 cm (23 inches) with fringes included. This beginner-friendly project is ideal for knitters looking to expand beyond traditional garment construction into home décor items, specifically circular area rugs suitable for living rooms and other interior spaces.
Design and Colorway
The rug features a three-color melange design combining lime, powder blue, and light blue yarns. The color combination creates visual interest while maintaining a cohesive, modern aesthetic. The melange approach—blending multiple yarn colors throughout the project—allows crafters to customize the final appearance by selecting their preferred color palette.
Knitting Techniques and Stitches
This pattern employs stockinette stitch as the primary construction method, making it accessible for beginners while producing a smooth, finished fabric surface. Stockinette stitch creates a classic knit appearance with horizontal rows and is one of the most fundamental stitches in knitting. The pattern also incorporates fringe finishing, which adds decorative edging and textural dimension to the circular perimeter of the rug.
Materials and Yarn Specifications
The pattern calls for 100% cotton yarn, specifically Alize Bella, which is machine washable—an important feature for a functional home textile that requires regular cleaning. The yarn weight is classified as 4 ply (Super Fine/Fingering/Sock weight), with specifications of 50 grams yielding 180 meters (197 yards). Total yardage required is 300 grams (10.58 ounces), divided equally as 100 grams (3.5 ounces) of each color.
