Moon Sachet Crochet Pattern by Bloodimaryart
Project Overview
The Moon Sachet is a practical crocheted pouch designed by Bloodimaryart as a versatile storage solution. This intermediate-level crochet project creates a small drawstring bag measuring 3.5 x 5 x 0.5 inches, suitable for storing crystals, dried herbs, coins, or other small items. The finished sachet combines functionality with decorative appeal, making it an ideal handmade gift or personal accessory.
What Is Being Made
This pattern produces a small fabric sachet or drawstring pouch. The project is constructed using two separate panels that are joined together, creating a compact storage bag with a closure mechanism. The finished dimensions are 3.5 inches wide by 5 inches tall by 0.5 inches deep, providing adequate space for small treasures while remaining portable and easy to carry.
Crochet Techniques Used
The Moon Sachet employs fundamental crochet techniques appropriate for beginner-intermediate crafters. The pattern utilizes basic construction methods including chain foundations, row-by-row building, and panel assembly. The design incorporates stitch variations and spacing techniques to create visual interest while maintaining structural integrity. Crafters will gain experience in reading pattern abbreviations, managing tension, and joining separate components into a finished garment.
Stitches Used
- Chain (Ch) – Used to create the foundation and openwork elements throughout the pattern
- Single Crochet (Sc) – Provides a tight, dense fabric base for the sachet panels
- Half Double Crochet (Hdc) – Offers medium-height stitches for structural support
- Double Crochet (Dc) – Creates taller stitches used in gauge swatches and specific pattern sections
- Slip Stitch (Sl st) – Joins rounds and seams together seamlessly
Materials and Tools Required
Yarn: DK weight yarn is specified for this project. The pattern references "Knitting Yarn by Sya," a yarn brand purchased online in Thailand, though any DK weight yarn in appropriate colors will work for this design.
Crochet Hook: A 4 mm crochet hook is required to achieve proper gauge and stitch definition.
Additional Supplies: Crafters will need scissors for cutting yarn, a tape measure for checking dimensions and gauge, a yarn needle for weaving in ends and assembly, and stitch markers to track pattern placement and row counts.
Gauge Information
The pattern specifies a gauge swatch of 2 x 2 inches (5 x 5 centimeters) measuring 9 double crochets by 5 rows. Checking gauge before beginning the project ensures the finished sachet will be the correct size. Crafters should work their gauge swatch with the 4 mm hook and DK weight yarn, adjusting hook size if necessary to match the specified measurements.
Pattern Structure
The Moon Sachet is constructed using a multi-panel approach. The pattern begins with the first panel, which is created by chaining 22 stitches and then working in rows using single crochet and chain stitches in an alternating pattern. This openwork construction creates a decorative yet functional fabric. The beginning chain does not count as a stitch in this pattern except where specifically noted in the instructions.
Skill Level and Difficulty
Designated as beginner-intermediate, this project is accessible to crafters with basic crochet knowledge while offering opportunities to develop skills in pattern reading, gauge work, and garment assembly. The straightforward stitch combinations and clear construction method make it an excellent project for those progressing beyond simple squares and rectangles.
