Pandemily, a 3 stage house (wide open eyes, sleepy eyes, sleepless eyes) , changing her priorities due to the lockdown we have experienced since really early this year. We will not forget this 2020, and I guess having a cute house with legs (uneven and unpaired socks) and arms, will remind us how our whole life changed in such a short time. I am sure you will enjoy crocheting her!
This pattern is FOR PERSONAL USE ONLY! You may not reproduce, distribute, resold, translate, publish alter, post or share (free or for sale) online or offline the pattern as a whole or any of its parts. PANDEMILY Original Crochet Doll Pattern
What Is Being Made
The PANDEMILY pattern is a free crochet amigurumi design created by Los Sospechosos that produces handmade stuffed dolls. Amigurumi is a Japanese technique for creating small, soft, three-dimensional crocheted toys and figures. This pattern allows crafters to construct charming doll characters suitable as toys or decorative pieces.
Craft and Technique
This project uses crochet as the primary construction method. Crochet is a fiber craft that creates fabric using a single hook to loop yarn into interlocking stitches. The amigurumi technique involves working in continuous rounds to build dimensional forms that are then stuffed with polyfiber fill to create soft, three-dimensional toys. The pattern is rated at intermediate difficulty, indicating it requires foundational crochet knowledge and familiarity with shaping techniques.
Stitches and Techniques Used
The PANDEMILY pattern employs several key crochet stitches and abbreviations:
- SC (Single Crochet): The fundamental stitch used throughout the pattern for building the doll's structure
- INC (Increase): Creating 2 single crochets in the same stitch to expand the fabric width
- INC3 (Triple Increase): Creating 3 single crochets in the same stitch for more dramatic shaping
- DEC (Decrease): Combining stitches to reduce fabric width and shape the form
- BLO (Back Loop Only): Working through only the back loop of stitches for textural variation
- BOB (Bobble Stitch): A decorative stitch created by working 5 double crochets while keeping the final loop on the hook, then drawing a loop through all loops for dimensional texture
The pattern uses the magic ring technique to begin projects, which creates a closed center point ideal for amigurumi construction. Stitch markers are used to track the beginning of rounds during continuous circular crochet work.
Materials Required
The PANDEMILY pattern calls for worsted weight yarn, which is a medium-weight yarn ideal for amigurumi projects as it creates fabric with good structure and definition. The specific yarn used in the original design is Katia yarns in multiple colors:
- Off-white for the primary body
- Coral (#49)
- Mint green (#53)
- Pistachio (#36)
- Light pink for details such as nose and cheeks
Additional materials include a 3.0 crochet hook sized to work with worsted weight yarn, polyfiber fill for stuffing the completed doll to create dimension and shape, and a pair of oval safety eyes for facial features. For dolls intended as gifts for babies or toddlers, black yarn can be embroidered instead of safety eyes for safety compliance.
Format and Accessibility
This pattern is available as a free downloadable PDF, making it accessible to crocheters at no cost. The downloadable format allows crafters to reference instructions while working on their project.
