What Is Being Made

The Savannah Tank Top is a crocheted sleeveless garment designed as a beginner-friendly project by independent designer Michelle Ferguson. This tank top features a fitted silhouette and is available in seven sizes ranging from XS (30" bust) to 3X (54" bust), with yardage requirements from 500 to 1150 yards depending on size selection.

Sizing and Fit

The Savannah Tank Top is designed with 2-3 inches of positive ease for a comfortable, relaxed fit. Crafters who prefer a more fitted silhouette are advised to size down. The pattern provides detailed yardage guidance for each size: XS requires 500 yards, S requires 730 yards, M requires 845 yards, L requires 1020 yards, XL requires 1100 yards, 2X requires 1125 yards, and 3X requires 1150 yards.

Crochet Techniques and Construction

The Savannah Tank Top is worked continuously in the round, a fundamental crochet technique that creates seamless, tubular garments. A stitch marker is used throughout to identify where each round begins, ensuring consistent pattern placement and ease of counting rounds. This construction method is ideal for tank tops as it eliminates the need for seaming while maintaining structural integrity.

Stitches Used

The pattern incorporates several essential crochet stitches to create texture and structure:

  • Chain stitch (ch) - Used to create the foundation and foundation chains for the garment
  • Single crochet (sc) - A fundamental short stitch providing dense fabric
  • Half double crochet (hdc) - A medium-height stitch offering moderate drape
  • Double crochet (dc) - A taller stitch creating lighter, more open fabric sections
  • Front post double crochet (FPdc) - A textured stitch worked around the post of stitches from previous rows, creating dimensional ribbing and visual interest
  • Back loop only (blo) - A technique working through only the back loop of stitches to create ridged texture
  • Slip stitch (sl st) - Used for joining rounds in specific pattern sections

Materials Required

Crafters will need worsted weight yarn in the yardage appropriate for their chosen size. The pattern calls for an I (5.5mm) crochet hook or a hook size adjusted to obtain the specified gauge. Additional materials include scissors for yarn cutting, a measuring tape for checking gauge and fit, a tapestry needle for weaving in yarn ends, and a stitch marker to track round beginnings.

Gauge and Fit Considerations

The gauge for the Savannah Tank Top is 13 stitches within the repetitive stitch pattern over 4 inches. Crafters are instructed to measure gauge in Round 2 or 3 of the pattern to ensure accurate sizing. Achieving proper gauge is essential for obtaining the correct finished bust measurements and overall garment proportions.

Skill Level

While listed as beginner-friendly in the product attributes, the pattern notes indicate an intermediate difficulty level. This suggests the project is suitable for crafters with foundational crochet knowledge who are ready to work with multiple stitch types and manage continuous round construction. The use of front post double crochet and the need to maintain consistent gauge throughout make this an excellent intermediate project for skill development.
