Product Description
Pattern updated September 13, 2021
The Taryn Beanie is named after a brave little girl I know. Thanks to the wonderful people of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and the mercy of God, she went up against a lethal brain tumor and won! In honor of Taryn and other children like her, all proceeds from this pattern (every cent not needed for listing fees) are donated to St. Jude.
Transparency and integrity are very important to me. I can provide receipts of donations to St. Jude from pattern sales upon request (with personal information concealed). Please do not hesitate to ask for these if you would like to see them before making your purchase.
St. Jude - Taryn Beanie Adult Size by Blue Daffodil Crafts
What is Being Made
The Taryn Beanie is a knit hat designed in adult size, featuring a distinctive panel of climbing dandelion stitches that begin in the brim. The pattern symbolizes hope rising, with the dandelion motif serving as a meaningful design element throughout the hat. This downloadable PDF pattern is available in six different sizes, allowing for customization to fit various head measurements. All proceeds from the sale of this pattern are donated to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, making each purchase a contribution to pediatric cancer research.
Techniques and Construction
The Taryn Beanie employs intermediate-level knitting techniques suitable for crafters with foundational skills and experience. The pattern includes instructions for creating the hat in either a fitted or slouchy style, giving knitters flexibility in the final silhouette and wear. The climbing dandelion stitch panel is the signature design feature, requiring attention to stitch placement and tension to achieve the desired visual effect of upward movement. The pattern is designed to be adaptable, with guidance for modifying the construction for different yarn weights, allowing knitters to work with their preferred materials and achieve consistent results across various yarn options.
Stitches Used
- Climbing dandelion stitches—the primary decorative element forming the symbolic panel that rises from the brim
- Standard knit and purl stitches for the foundation and body of the hat
- Ribbing stitches for the brim and finishing edges
Materials
The Taryn Beanie is designed to work with worsted weight yarn, a versatile and commonly available yarn weight that provides good stitch definition for the climbing dandelion pattern. The pattern includes modifications for different yarn weights, enabling knitters to substitute alternative weights if desired. Standard knitting needles appropriate to the chosen yarn weight are required, with needle size typically determined by the specific yarn selected and the desired fabric drape and fit.
Pattern Details
Created by Dana Silvers of Blue Daffodil Crafts and protected by copyright, the Taryn Beanie pattern represents a meaningful design with purpose. The pattern was developed as a tribute and fundraising effort, with the dandelion symbolism reflecting themes of hope and resilience. The availability of six sizes and the option to adjust between fitted and slouchy constructions makes this pattern adaptable for different preferences and head sizes within the adult category.
