Product Description

This pattern uses one of my favorite stitch combinations. The combination creates lots of texture for a nice scrubby dish or wash cloth.

Textured Dish Cloth by Victoria Gottschalk

What is Being Made

This is a practical crochet dish cloth designed by Victoria Gottschalk of Crochet Sunnshyne. The finished project measures 7 1/2" x 7 1/2", creating a square cloth suitable for kitchen use. The cloth is specifically engineered with a textured surface that provides excellent scrubbing capability, making it functional for dishwashing and general kitchen cleaning tasks.

Craft and Technique

This project uses the crochet technique as its primary craft method. The body of the dish cloth features the Suzette stitch, which is a textured stitch pattern that creates a dimensional, bumpy surface ideal for scrubbing purposes. This stitch combines basic crochet stitches in an alternating pattern to build the characteristic texture that makes the cloth effective for cleaning.

Stitches Used

  • Chain (ch) – used for foundation and turning chains
  • Single Crochet (sc) – primary stitch in the Suzette pattern
  • Half Double Crochet (hdc) – contributes to overall structure
  • Double Crochet (dc) – alternates with single crochet in the textured pattern
  • Slip Stitch (sl st) – used for joining

Materials and Tools

This project requires Lily Sugar'n Cream cotton yarn in worsted weight, which is an ideal fiber choice for dish cloths due to its durability, absorbency, and easy-care properties. The pattern calls for one US H (5mm) crochet hook, along with basic finishing tools including a yarn needle and scissors.

Difficulty Level

Classified as Easy to Intermediate, this dish cloth is accessible to crocheters with foundational stitch knowledge. The pattern uses only fundamental crochet stitches, though the repetitive Suzette stitch pattern requires attention to the rhythm of skipping and placing stitches consistently across multiple rows.
