Product Description
This file contains two patterns, Fetching My Boy cowl and Home Again fingerless mitts. It is better value to buy this file with both patterns although they are available here separately. They are designed for two colours of 4-ply/fingering weight yarn and have a subtle textured pattern of diamonds. The set requires approx 400 yards of yarn (170 yards main colour, 130 yards contrast colour). Both are worked seamlessly in the round and the mitts have a thumb gusset.
The Boy Came Home Cowl and Mitts by Kirsten Mcteer
Project Overview
The Boy Came Home is a knitted cowl and mitts set designed by Kirsten Mcteer. This downloadable PDF pattern offers an intermediate-level knitting project inspired by the designer's personal story of fetching her son home from his grandparents' house. The collection includes a lightweight cowl and coordinating mittens, both suitable for layering during transitional seasons.
The Cowl: Fetching My Boy
The cowl component, titled "Fetching My Boy," is a lightweight neckwear piece worked in fingering weight yarn. It is designed to be versatile enough for autumn or spring wear, or for adding extra warmth when worn around the house. The pattern accommodates a wide range of skill levels, from enthusiastic beginners seeking a project worked in the round to advanced knitters looking for a quick and simple make.
Knitting Techniques and Stitches
The cowl features a distinctive diamond texture pattern created through knitting stitches worked in the round. This textured stitch pattern provides visual interest while remaining accessible to intermediate knitters. The pattern offers flexibility in yarn color choices—knitters can work the design in two contrasting colored yarns as shown, or use a single color throughout for a different aesthetic effect.
